FUCK! Now Bluesky is suspending accounts of trans folx who speak out and "wish ill" upon JK Rowling. But she can spew hatred all the time at trans folx. Hello, double standards, one for the filthy rich, one for the hoi polloi. I'd hoped Bluesky was a better place to be; I was sadly mistaken. FUCK!

Planning my wall display for 1001 Pots' 36th annual show, which runs Friday, July 4 - Sunday, August 17, in Val-David, QC. My display will be in the gallery (right side of the path to the main grounds). If you're in the Laurentians, come visit and take a look: there's over 100 ceramicists on show.
About 20 wall ceramic sculptures; they look like bits of machines that do not have a clear and apparent function. The background is a faux-faded indian carpet. My house is messy, yes, yes it is.

Fascinating: Did you know that the Sun's energy output per cubic meter is only about the same as that of a compost heap? ☀️🍂 About 277 watts per m3 (277 watts per m3 doesn't seem very impressive. But the sheer volume of the Sun generates an immense output.)

A turning dial of some kind... I'll probably make the dial red or orange, and the bit underneath looks like a good candidate for Pinnell's weathered bronze. I continue to delight in adding moveable bits to my compositions.

Photos from last weekend's wood firing. We camped, cooked over a fire, bantered, burned about a cord of wood over 34 hours & toasted the finish with saké. Gratitude to the early morning crew who started it at 2 AM & to the night crew who babysat it overnight (and fretted while it was stalling) xoxo

I've reached the point where I hesitate to look at social media or Reddit because my heart gets broken each time by the horrific news from around the world. And it feels tone-deaf & frivolous to post anything related to my art practice.

Another #Metallic from the most recent glaze firing. Not _entirely_ pleased with the blue underglaze on the "H-beam" section; further thought needed. Still, I'm happy the red stirrup thingmie still rotates inside the blue ring thingmie (I speak advanced technical jargon, y'all). #Sculpture
a piece of ceramics that looks likes a piece of machinery. It's a half cylinder, cut lenghtwise, with a red stirrup handle that can flip side to side. There are black and yellow chevrons on either side. It can be hung up vertically, or horizontally. Heck, even diagonally if that's what razzes your berries. Background is pavement.

💦💧💦 The water-themed #Metallic came out pretty dang great! I'll do some touch-ups with acrylic inks to fix a spot or two that I don't like, and it'll be ready to wire up for hanging. The red tap still turns as well. I am pleased. #ContemporarySculpture #CanadianCeramics #ClayArt #Ceramics #Canada
The front of a roundel wall-sculpture as seen on pavement. It has a red tap, a red-capped clean-out on the side, three water channels, and a water drop symbol in case it wasn't obvious enough this thing is about water in an industrialized or urban setting. Not shown on the side is a plaque with the molecular weight of water on it, as an Easter Egg. Several of my works have Easter Eggs, actually. It's a little fun thing I do to amuse myself while I work.

Glazing pots outside for a wood firing. Oh! The freedom to splash, drip & make a mess is so liberating! It also makes me feel connected to the long tradition of pottery around the world, often done out of doors. In case you're wondering, I'm testing out a Malcolm Davis carbon trap shino. + cat tax
A wooden board covered with news paper set in a driveway. It holds six pots that have been splashed and dripped with glazes; my hand holding a brush hovers over a bucket of gray coloured glaze (that glaze should be dark green after firing)The top view of the splashed bowls and plate on the wooden board with newspaper. Background is asphalt. Why yes, this is a messy process, as the white splashes on my jeans will attest. This orange cat is not taking me seriously, at all. (he's yawning, but he could also be laughing his fuzzy ass off).

This little bouquet of spirea boughs (which I banged into a vase after giving the bush encroaching on the front steps a hasty clip) is such a delight today. #Flowers #Spring #Spirea #Bouquet #Vignette
A naïve bouquet of "bridal veil" spirea boughs arching out of a cylinder vase rests on a black surface. There's a trinket dish next to it. Behind is a green lamp with a white shade, a black speaker, and a mellow yellow wall hung with a painting.

Applying underglaze to a bisqued piece. Lots of fiddly corners and nooks to reach into. After that, there was lots of messing around with iron and manganese oxide washes to give it a "fresh from the junkyard" look. Hopefully it'll make it into a glaze kiln next weekend!

I'm girding myself to glaze some pots for the upcoming woodfiring. I've got a few more buckets to sieve + check for specific gravity. I like planning + making glazes, but I HATE applying them in general (because I'm shite at it). Also, here's a cat tax to atone for my whingeing.
My studio workbench with several bisqued mugs, bowls, and boxes ready for glazing, mostly made with white clay bodies. There's a clutter of tools behind, all attached to the pegboarded wall.A fluffy, majestic orange cat looking up; his nose is freckled, his whiskers are bristling, and he looks like the total goober that he is. He sits on a green blanket. I'm too lazy to describe the rest of the mess in my home, so deal with it.

Got this #Metallic back from the studio's last glaze load. I'm pleased with how it came out. The lid didn't get stuck & still slides side to side! As always, these wall pieces can be installed in any desired orientation, and combined with other Metallics. #ContemporarySculpture #CanadianCeramics
Vertical half cylinder in brown, textured, ceramic that looks rusty. There's a two-way yellow arrow on the left, and five red stripes on the left. There's a long narrow box inserted down the middle, with a yellow sliding lid, and a red bottom with black spots. The Secret Architecture of Things: I made a low plinth to accompany a piece of mine.
A low plinth made of textured red-brown clay, at the green stage. The texture is meant to evoke wood. It's about 32 cm long, 24 cm wide and 5 cm high.

The piece is show diagonally. It sits atop of a piece of black cloth. There's a turquoise and white plastic in the back, and some crumpled plastic.Showing off the grid of braces I've installed on the underside to keep the surface from sagging during firings.

Underside is divided into 8 rectagles by strips of clay. It's atop some black fabric and a sheet of plastic.

The Secret Architecture of Things: I started a new half pipe sculpture this week. I brace my forms to keep them as stiff as possible so the result looks like a piece of pitted, rusted machinery. At first, the underside often looks more interesting than the blank canvas I've made. #ProcessShot #Clay
Front side: a rather bland textured partial cylinder, which will be worked on and modified later.Underside of the cylinder, with five braces to keep the form from spreading or warping, and also to run a wire through for hanging later. Top and bottom edges are also thickened for a heftier look.
