I would spend the entire afternoon there. Looks amazing

It’s popular! It looks a little bit retro. My husband wants one.

It’s known as ‘die Ente’ in Germany – the duck – and I fully expect this to be as successful as the Renault R5 electric reboot.

Some of you will have seen the new Citroen 2CV already. I’m at the launch and I think it looks great. Smaller, lighter, electric and really not expensive

A picture of the new Citroen 2CV. Bright red, small, light and cheap.

We got our first dishwasher second hand (well before Kleinanzeigen from an ad in the local paper!)

Lynn Nothegger @lynnnothegger.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

I’d hate to be without mine now, and always grumble when we are in a holiday home without one. It does make keeping the kitchen clean and tidy easier. But would do without before I’d do without a washing machine for sure.

Lynn Nothegger @lynnnothegger.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

They do a lot of cooking so I think they underestimate how much they use the oven.

010

Lynn Nothegger @lynnnothegger.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

I had to go to laundrette for a couple of weeks when we were in a holiday home with no washing machine, and it was a pita. The first week or so was fine, but it got old fast!

010

Lynn Nothegger @lynnnothegger.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

Same here. Lots of people saying airfryer. We don’t have one so maybe that’s why it never occurred to us.

000

Lynn Nothegger @lynnnothegger.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

Yeah, I think they underestimate how much money and time it would take to go to launderette weekly.

110

Lynn Nothegger @lynnnothegger.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

I think she’s forgetting how much washing she does here!

010

Lynn Nothegger @lynnnothegger.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

Not weird, but I suspect that they’d not wash up right away and the kitchen would look untidy.

010

Lynn Nothegger @lynnnothegger.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

Same here. It’s so interesting that they see it differently. Maybe that’ll change though once they see how annoying it it to go to the laundrette!

000

Lynn Nothegger @lynnnothegger.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

I think it’s because they both know that they’d not wash up immediately and the kitchen would always be a mess.

000

Lynn Nothegger @lynnnothegger.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

It’s weird cause she buys a lot from Kleinanzeigen, but for some reason, this bothers her.

110

Lynn Nothegger @lynnnothegger.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

One thing that I love about the dishwasher is that the kitchen just looks tidier cause no dishes lying around. But wouldn’t be worth going without an oven for.

Lynn Nothegger @lynnnothegger.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

There’s one very close to the new apartment, but I’m guessing they haven’t considered the cost.

010

Lynn Nothegger @lynnnothegger.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

I don’t know. We bought a washing machine for €100 once, gave it a good scrub, and it lasted for years.

110

Lynn Nothegger @lynnnothegger.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

I’ve told her that’s not happening. It’s already a pain as I’ve got piles of washing lying around the hall (where our machines are). Not having it when she’s moved out!

110

Lynn Nothegger @lynnnothegger.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

It would be ok for a week or so, but would get old fast!

010

Lynn Nothegger @lynnnothegger.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

They are vegan/vegetarian so that’s not an issue! They do cook a lot though, and I think they underestimate how much they use the oven.

000

Lynn Nothegger @lynnnothegger.bsky.social · 11/10/2026

I do agree that a dishwasher makes the kitchen feel much tidier.

010

Lynn Nothegger @lynnnothegger.bsky.social · 11/10/2026

Haha. We disagree on the correct way to fill the dishwasher. I say disagree, but it’s mainly him re-sorting the machine cause he thinks I’ve done it wrong.

110

Lynn Nothegger @lynnnothegger.bsky.social · 11/10/2026

I would really miss not having an oven. I use it a lot.

100

Lynn Nothegger @lynnnothegger.bsky.social · 11/10/2026

Son-in-law’s dad apparently repaired their washing machine and it was ‘disgusting’ inside even though they do regular hygiene washes. 🤷‍♀️ really wouldn’t bother me.

010

Lynn Nothegger @lynnnothegger.bsky.social · 11/10/2026

Oh, we will! They are old enough to make up their own minds. And to be fair, daughter uses a LOT of dishes when she cooks, so I get their point re needing a dishwasher.

000

Lynn Nothegger @lynnnothegger.bsky.social · 11/10/2026

I’ve lived without a washing machine by using a launderette, which is doable, but only for a little while. Couldn’t cope with handwashing everything. That’s incredible.

200

Lynn Nothegger @lynnnothegger.bsky.social · 11/10/2026

No other cooking appliances. They might take my MIL’s microwave cause she never uses it.

210

Lynn Nothegger @lynnnothegger.bsky.social · 11/10/2026

They don’t have an airfryer either. We didn’t have a dishwasher till I was 23ish, and it was second hand.

Nothing. Just a hob. Maybe microwave.

Lynn Nothegger @lynnnothegger.bsky.social · 11/10/2026

Daughter: we could do without a washing machine for a couple of months and just take our washing elsewhere. Me: not to my house, my friend.

Lynn Nothegger @lynnnothegger.bsky.social · 11/10/2026

My priority list (in order of importance): Oven Washing machine Dishwasher Cause you can go to launderette if need be. Their list is the opposite: Dishwasher Washing machine Oven My suggestion to get all three second hand was met with ‘Eeeeuuuuwww’

Lynn Nothegger @lynnnothegger.bsky.social · 11/10/2026

That’s what I said. They insist oven isn’t as important.

Lynn Nothegger @lynnnothegger.bsky.social · 11/10/2026

Daughter and her boyfriend are planning to move out and will need three kitchen appliances. We do not agree which is highest priority – and which they could do without for 6 months while they save up: Washing machine Dishwasher Oven Which could you do without?
