Abundance. #gardening #pdxgardening
A stainless steel bowl almost overflows with yellow sweet banana peppers, cherry tomatoes, a few green beans, and a cucumber; arrayed around the bowl’s rim are four butternut squash and two acorn squash.

I get to donate $90 to Al Otro Lado, @jessethorn.bsky.social's favorite group to support! Why? Email says a check for $90 from 47 is coming from SSA (ahem). So off it goes! Thanks, 47, I really wanted to make a difference & you're making it possible! Maybe not what you wanted, but... 🤷🏻‍♀️

“It's a good day because you exist”
A dog—at least I think it’s a dog, it might be a fox but I don’t think so—rolls on their back; their eyes are shut blissfully, their tongue is out and their paws in the air, a bow tie around their neck and a smile on their face. They have an orange-yellow face, back and eyebrows, and a white belly, snout, under-tail and paws. "It’s a good day because you exist” wreaths them at the bottom and the top of the picture.

Back from trip to see the parents means I got gorgeous yarn to show! Mostly from Heathered Yarn Co in Grass Valley. Names and colors in alt. Also cool tote bag, proceeds of which go to buying HYC’s building!
Tableau: five skeins of yarn, all fingering, and a canvas tote bag. The tote bag has a crescent moon in the background of it with a skein of yarn, wildflowers and mushrooms, and the moniker Heathers Yarn Co. Grass Valley, California on it. The yarns L/R bottom row: Heathered Yarn Co. Sock colorway Dream State;Tributary Yarns Stream Sock colorway Thao’s Dahlias; HYC Sock colorway Flora; Knitted Wit Sock colorway Camas. Atop the row: Knitted Wit Sock colorway Greenwich Village. Dream State is 30 colors all wildly mixed; Thao’s Dahlias is deep orange, cream, turquoise, yellow and flecks of deep red; Flora is soft mauve, gray, pale yellow and deep orange; Camas is deep blue on one end and exuberant yellow on the other with cream between them; Greenwich Village is mostly yellow with flecks of deep orange and a bit of black. EXHAUSTING, NO?

And the bag clip is done. This is a pretty cool machine I gotta say. Also a useful testy thingy. It surprised me; it was already put together, no fiddling with pieces required which is what I’d expected. Amazing. Yes, I am old, what about it.

L to R: 2+ week old, 1+ week old & brand new #pickles. Homegrown cukes. I am SALIVATING. Gonna try the 2+ weeks; I tested them after a week (I KNOW I KNOW) & while they were good they weren’t ready.
Three gallon jars of pickles sit in a row. Each contains whole cucumbers and sliced garlic. The left one has garlic, dill and bay leaves; the middle one has garlic, fresh oregano, sage, rosemary and thyme sprigs; and the right one just has garlic.

Little skein o’ yarn. This is the rough spinning I did earlier this week. Meh. I’m in a spinning mood now, though. I have some lovely red wool/silk I’ve been working through… #spinning #knitting #pdxspinning #pdxknitting 🧶

A bobbin half-full of newly-spun yarn hangs on its spinning wheel, a plywood-and-plastic contraption. The yarn is two-ply, plied back upon itself, in colors of ochre and indigo. People, this wool is rough. I am not happy with myself for agreeing to spin it. Phooey.

First of yesterday’s carding spun up, the leftovers of the other colors (but not the waste). I’m not used to spinning indigo dyed; my fingertips are blue. We’ll see. It’s rough. Probably a bag or something.

2/ Students want to make something—anything—pretty-ish. Doesn’t have to be perfect or even close, but this teacher gave them crap wool & badly taught them to spin. My friend flat out gave me the fleece & washed her hands of spinning. I hope it’s not forever.

Further notes on carding for #spinning: this wool is extremely mid, like almost unusable. VM, sure, you expect it. 2nd cuts? Near-felted locks? Wool so rough there’s few uses for it? Uh… No. /1

Photos of the garden this morning pt 5 (the last): cucumbers at the base of their catenary arch, and last year's row of lavender (❤️) grown into a happy, tidy mess.
Four cucumber plants at the base of a catenary arch. Two are newly transplanted. A row of lavender blooms in rowdy profusion in a corrugated metal garden bed. Half the bed is empty and I'm thinking about what I'll plant in the front.

Scallions, bolted radishes, cilantro, lettuces, parsley, and two fennel plants grow in relatively tidy rows in a corrugated metal garden bed.Four snap pea plants twine over a catenary arch; two tomato plants grow underneath. Finished the body of the Marettimo tee by Caitlin Hunter. Now to work on the sleeves. It’s a little snug—I accidentally knit the XL size when I should have knit the 2XL—but it’s not too small. It’s just more fitted than the designer intended.
The body of a tee is spread out on a bed. It is a tonal orange/red with narrow dark red stripes framing two wide feather-and-fan stripes in a variegated yarn that reads red/orange/white.

Knit on a 40” circular needle is a Marettimo tee in an orange/red tonal fingering weight yarn. Pea plants crawl up a cattle fence catenary arch which spans a steel raised garden bed. Smaller plants peep out from a second steel bed to its right. To the left against a fence, three steel raised garden beds march by; a row of lavender graces the middle bed.
