Part 2: which convictions they’re most concerned about, generally.

Why a Criminal Record Matters

Canada restricts entry to individuals with certain criminal histories to protect public safety and uphold the integrity of its immigration system. Even if your conviction occurred many years ago or was considered a minor offence in your home country, it may still be treated as a serious criminal offence under Canadian law.
Examples of offences that can make you inadmissible include:
Driving under the influence (DUI) or impaired driving
Assault or domestic violence
Drug possession or drug trafficking
Theft, fraud, or forgery
Weapons or firearm offences
If an officer determines your offence is equivalent to an indictable offence under Canada’s Criminal Code, you may be refused entry.

It would be conviction if a criminal charge - not a civil one. They’re a local bylaw infractions & wouldn’t be raised to a federal level that I know of… but I’m no lawyer! 😅 Here’s a screenshot from an article by a Canadian law firm that gives examples of the types of convictions they mean.

They don’t. That’s likely a pet which was released or the progeny of one which was. They are a non-native (aka invasive) species in the area. It’s like seeing a feral cat colony or “wild” pigeons or “rabbit parks.” They aren’t wild. They’re pets someone didn’t want any more & dumped.

As a family of ferrets + a RES turtle, we love seeing art with mustelids & turtles! 🥰

A red-eared slider turtle in a hexagonal, soft-sided, grey & beige coloured pet pen with black mesh and trim. The bottom and top are fully attached & enclosed. Our RES #turtle 🐢 Moe’s tank w ATBA is in our living room. He’s super interactive with us & regularly shows signs of wanting to come out and explore - but every time I take him out into the main living area (w ferrets locked up) or outside w his pool) he panics. BUT he *really* wanted out! /1

Right in the ear lol… Ferb likes to come groom me after he gets salmon oil snacks & usually that involves licking me on the mouth or my cheek right by my eye. Their tongues are SO scratchy!! Every time I try to go along but after a bit I feel like I’m getting overly exfoliated! 😅
