From Spotlight PA: Will independents ever get to vote in Pa. primaries? Advocates hope a lawsuit moves the needle. www.spotlightpa.org/news/2026/03... LWV has repeatedly supported proposed legislation in Harrisburg that would open Pennsylvania’s closed primary system to all registered voters.

Will a lawsuit open PA’s primaries to independent voters?
The suit argues PA’s closed primaries violate the state constitution by giving Democrats and Republicans more voting power than independents.

Images of Presidents Lincoln and Washington with the following text: At the dedication of the Gettysburg Cemetery, Abraham Lincoln called on Americans to dedicate themselves "to the great task remaining before us," that the nation "shall have a new birth of freedom" and that "government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."

Lincoln observed that the nation had been
"conceived in Liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal."

In his 1796 Farewell Address President Washington forewarns that:
"The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge natural to party dissension ... is itself a frightful despotism...The disorders and miseries which result gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction... turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation on the ruins of public liberty."

Congress continues to introduce bills that would require voters to present documentary proof of citizenship to register and vote. Americans do not need MORE obstacles to vote. Tell your representatives to vote NO on the SAVE America Act —> lwv.org/save-act
What's the SAVE America Act, and who will it impact?
(Spoiler: Millions of us)
This week, the House is set to vote on the SAVE America Act - the new and expanded version of the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act that passed the House last year.
This updated Save America Act would add a second occasion for voters to demonstrate their citizenship: at the polls.
This bill also contains the requirements in last year's Save Act to prove citizenship when registering to vote.
However, voters in every state are already required to affirm or verify their citizenship status when registering. Why is that an issue?
• Because many Americans don't have access to adequate documentation like birth certificates and passports to prove citizenship.
• Additionally, voters would be required to register in person with their proof of citizenship and then bring that document again to the polls.
• Any proof of citizenship requirement would create massive barriers for eligible voters, especially married women, naturalized citizens, trans and minority communities, and elderly voters, suppressing millions of people.• 69 million women who've taken their spouse's name will be required to use other documents to prove their citizenship because their birth certificate won't match their current legal name.
• About 146 million Americans don't have a passport.
• If the Save America Act passes, we're looking at a complicated process of gathering documents to exercise our fundamental right to vote.

The SAVE Act is currently before Congress -- this bill would create another barrier to voting by requiring unnecessary citizenship documentation to register. Voters don't need one more barrier to making their voices heard. Tell your Senators to oppose the SAVE Act!

How the SAVE Act Could Disenfranchise Millions of Married Women and Trans Voters - National Women's Law Center
The SAVE Act (H.R. 22) is a dangerous and anti-democratic bill that would make it significantly harder for millions of U.S. citizens to vote. The bill was first introduced in response to the repeatedly debunked claims that people who were not U.S. citizens voted in the 2024 elections. Now the House of Representatives is expected […]

The League of Women Voters calls on Congress to exercise its constitutional oversight authority and investigate these threats of federal overreach, as well as DHS, ICE, and CBP use-of-force.
We urge the public to reject efforts to normalize the use of federal military force as a response to civil unrest or tragedy.
The League stands with Minnesotans in affirming that democracy is built by the people, not imposed through fear or force.
