I wasted 5 minutes of my life reading the Corey NYT interview "this conservative has become dismayed by what conservativism has become". Not a word about illegal war, putting the Pres. out of reach of the law, weaponizing the DOJ, massive grift and corruption... What bubbles these people live in.

Compare and contrast: NYT head: "Senate to Open Debate on Bill to Stiffen Voting Rules". Then below text: "strict voter ID bill... that (Trump) and his R allies groundlessly claim is needed to combat mass voter fraud by non-citizens". Also: no mention of the prooff of citizenship to register

JFK famously "wrote" Profiles in Courage, about pols who went against their constituents to do the right thing. I think we need another book "Profiles in Cowardice"; but I'm afraid it would be a really long book that no one would have the interest/patience to read.

Also too: Douthat has the nerve to write "when development happens under progressives auspices, it is often soul-crushingly unattractive." Of course he can't say that the huge overgilded monstrosity that will dwarf the White House is attractive, because that would make him look idiotic.

Should resist, but: Douthat's column in the NYT: "No doubt there was a more careful and sensitive way to pursue the project." A sly way to avoid saying "destroy the East Wing without permission or planning".

I was proud and happy to be at a No Kings protest yesterday. It made feel there is a movement that is going to take down the regime eventually. Millions of people protesting, and of course the NYT has a tiny note below the fold on the front page and the story on p. 22. F them.

It's been both instructive and discouraging to see that all it takes is a dimming of the light for the vermin to come out of the woodwork. That said, Saturday's events gave me a sense of optimism for the first time in months.
