I have stockpiled the olive oil. Everything will be delicious. If the apocalypse comes tomorrow, I am prepared. With olive oil.

(Adding for anyone who sees this and doesn’t know me: I got a PhD and 20 year old me was mostly wrong about who goes to graduate school.)

Ha, 20 year old me literally laughed in my advisor’s face when she suggested graduate school, because only extremely wealthy disconnected people go to graduate school. I think she‘d be happy I’m a librarian but otherwise angry and disappointed because that was her typical response to everything.

Little (extremely well) known fact: If you just keep adding olive oil, everything is delicious.

“This is a traditional knowledge that they have in the community. We want to preserve that knowledge and we didn’t want to give it another name.”

“This cat, they call it tilcayo. And when you ask, ‘Does it have some meaning in Quechua or Almyra and other Indigenous languages?’ they say, ‘No, my grandpa told me that’s the tilcayo,’” Nogales-Ascarrunz said.

Not me bouncing in my chair that (a) this cat exists, and (b) the scientists who described it for the first time in scientific literature kept its local name.

Anyway, thank you for giving me so much to think about!

Just finished the essay. I love how tangled your reading of "interfluous" becomes, the way all the possible definitions sort of ooze together. I've always found the textures of the words in OttWW so compelling -- "skyey" especially, and also "oozy," everything sort of melting into itself.

I don’t ever want to stop hurting. But I also don’t know how to function with this level of grief.

Everyone I have ever recommend 10 Cloverfield Lane to has had this reaction. It’s a real shame that it was marketed as part of the Cloverfield franchise, because it deserves to be recognized on the caliber of Psycho Or Rosemarys Baby.

This looks fascinating -- thanks for sharing! You've been doing really interesting work lately around plants. Is there a bigger project in the works? If you'll be at NASSR/ICR/NAVSA I'd love to chat!

That sounds amazing!! Would love to read your paper if you're willing to share.

7 of the top 10 colleges ranked for ROI are CUNYs. Queens is ranked 4. And yet we can’t afford a chief librarian. All the adjuncts who were filling in for retired full time faculty have been let go. We all deserve better. Fund CUNY.

Remember in like 2007, when we were all like, "Why is the GC a cancer cluster?" And somehow didn't ask, how many of those people were here in 2001?

The Other Victims of 9/11

Twenty-five years after the attack, tens of thousands of people have gotten sick. I am one of them.

The genocide accelerated in 2023, but it started in 1948.

Did you read Sarah Schulman's "The Gentrification of the Mind"? There's a line in it that haunts me, something like, "9/11 was the ultimate gentrification of AIDS."
