There was no special treatment for Lenin or the rest of the government, far from it. Krupskaya used to go to the common restaurant in the Kremlin to bring back dinner. She was often seen walking along with a large chunk of black bread and a pot of soup. This is hardly the lifestyle of a man accused of living on many times the income of an industrial worker. Clara Zetkin recorded the following picture when she visited Lenin:
