Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 16hThere is a 50 year project to put the Isar back into its original bed in Munich. It started in the 90s. 010
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 14/10/2026I can't believe we push this nonsense and don't do pedestrian streets. I thought we had a safety and health crisis and here we are subsidizing driving and parking. 010
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 12/10/2026I couldn't agree more. that additional lane always creates this competitive behavior to not let anyone pass or to try to pass and together reckless speeding. you don't get more capacity because nothing moves anyway. just shut down those lanes. 010
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 09/10/2026I can't wait to go, well after it stops raining. 020
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 08/10/2026And yet every conversation is about preserving parking and how to ease traffic flow and get cars to the market and just any bit of making life without a car pleasant is an extreme uphill battle. 020
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Well the problem is in America, they will build shit boxes with super deep plates that nobody wants to live in making them ghettos in 10 years. If they built pleasant places with windows in all rooms and balconies, but they won't. 020
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 19/09/2026This was really fun and insightful and the prereception was also very special. Maybe some day all this great energy produces a few pedestrian streets 011
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 17/09/2026man if we had a train to the mountains. Reminds me of going to the Matterhorn for skiing. no cars allowed. 050
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Does it even matter if we submit comments or does the voice of the nimby just count more? I am kind of curious how that works in Seattle. 020
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 04/09/2026Cue all the meat eaters and pescatarians extremely concerned. 000
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 31/08/2026I'm sorry but I am losing faith in our urbanist council and mayor. Bruce Harrell of all was able to pull this off. Have seen 0 pedestrianization from Katie Wilson so far. If the Katie Wilson's of the world don't put their weight behind pedestrianization, we will just simply not get it in my lifetime 111
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 17/08/2026Well mo somehow bruce Harrell managed to close it and that half block in front of it and Katie Wilson has done none of that. The 8 is great, but not one pedestrianization project and move backwards here she is not using her influence, very disappointing. 010
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 16/08/2026this was sooo fun. rode down with wife from Ravenna, then over to the rainier beach light rail station to go back to Roosevelt. Felt like living in a city. 021
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 14/08/2026ugh. I thought it couldn't get worse than Leavenworth and here we are. 010
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 12/08/2026remember car brains are stupid, they also think the suburbs are loosely spread between farms and suburbanites drive their 1950's ford F150 through fields to the nearest farm for their milk 000
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 11/08/2026yep agreed. that said I don't know how much foot traffic they get in pioneer square. I just don't believe things get *better* by adding two parking spots for the whole neighborhood. 110
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 11/08/2026good. I decided to never shop there again after the whole parking thing. These businesses deserve to fail where they are. they should go to a strip mall maybe they would do well there. 160
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 07/08/2026I completely agree. It's always easy to legislate against a minority the politician is not a part, or which doesn't have a strong political voice (ie kids who ride ebikes and scooters). Then use irrelevant statistics (10 crashes on scooters!!! compared to 10s of millions in cars) to drive the point. 020
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 06/08/2026I’ll start to listen when you are as outraged by the energy used by the meat industry. 000
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 06/08/2026Where is the action against cars that kill millions? I think given the impact much higher urgency than this nonsense. 010
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 03/08/2026Not holding my breath. In the US, pedestrianization means there is a sign on the road that says "pedestrians watch for cars" and added parking to "bring in pedestrians." 100
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 03/08/2026I ride my bike to work every day. This year, I've been able to do that without gloves and a t-shirt only three times. Once in May, once in June and once in July. 000
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 20/07/2026while I love it, I don't see anything seattle is doing to make this happen. Starting with preservation boards that preserve illegal parking above safety, to nimbys that stop housing from being built to a shitty downtown that's just a bunch of freeway on-ramps with no change in sight. 000
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 20/07/2026Yeah I have lost all hope. Words aren't infrastructure. We can't even get the "preservation boards" to remove illegal parking. This will never happen in any city in this country. You'd need people to live in the city. Reason to come here. There aren't any. This was a once in a lifetime event. 000
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 02/07/2026I don't know man. He's my neighbor and he seems to have his head on straight. Many times if you work for the office, DA, or whatever it's more about the experience than it is about who you are working for so I wouldn't overthink that part. 000
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 19/06/2026I rode through there at 7:50 am this morning and it was PACKED with cars 000
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 17/06/2026Well honestly, when people tell me they just got here late or had a hard time finding parking or got stuck in traffic I always go into stories about how horrible cars are on the road. 010
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 02/06/2026I don't know how many more surveys I have to fill out telling them we love no cars. I worry if I miss one it will give them reason to bring cars back. 020
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 29/05/2026Yeah I think the pace is too low, the lanes are too lame and the combination doesn't make up for the explosion in traffic, vehicle size, distraction, and driver aggression. 000
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 28/05/2026We lost nearly ten years because of Jenny Durkan and Bruce Harrell. Without them, we'd have a street car on first ave and we'd be working on a downtown tunnel at international station for a true "Main trainstation" down there. Now instead we have shit and two assholes who aren't held accountable. 1131
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 27/05/2026Very sad how cyclists deal with the roads in seattle - discussion over on reddit. www.reddit.com/r/seattlebik...reddit.comFrom the seattlebike community on RedditExplore this post and more from the seattlebike community 010
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 27/05/2026Yeah totally. That whole street BLOWS. I't funny how down at marginal way it's basically a one lane with no traffic. I get people merge to and from freeway but it could easily be one lane each direction and wouldn't be much worse for cars (or who cares if it is) to add lots of trees and bole lane 130
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 27/05/2026I don't know what your route is but there are good ways around this nonsense. 100
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 27/05/2026this must be old nobody is severely obese and no mobility scooters 000
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 22/05/2026It's not how much you spend on safety. It's how much political will you have to hold back the cars. 000
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 22/05/2026This is my urbanist outlier opinion I formed in Zurich. Great transit is hella expensive and disincentives cycling infra. For all cities that are struggling with financing trams/metro, convert streets to bike and walk streets. It will have huge impact and make the city prettier, and be cheaper. 040
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 22/05/2026See this is whart communism gets you. better be prepared. 000
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 20/05/2026Please note the very subtle contradiction. Relaying cars into the neighborhood streets is acknowledged as a bad thing on that second picture. So car light/free for me, not for thee. 090
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 15/05/2026how timely of Xi to bring this up now, a few years after Biden just to avoid any confusion with the current admin. 000
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 13/05/2026I commute by ebike from Ravenna to georgetown and the only time driving is faster is if I go before 6:45 am and if I go south. Going north is only faster at like 3am. So I go the whole length of the city north to south and it's better than driving. Everyone should be better of cycling. 000
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 08/05/2026I think this would help with commuting even if they didn't even do the light rail part and just put in more bikelanes. costs almost nothing. Oh wait, political backbone and vision. we'd need that. 000
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 07/05/2026WTF. And in NYC, Mamdani just says "bike boulevard here". We need executive orders. My list: broadway at the light rail station, ne 65th street at the light rail station (and roosevelt and 11th ave NE), and Rainier in Othello and Rainier beach. 010
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 07/05/2026all of these people suck. We should realize that we are trying to build a city not for these people. We are building a city for people that will embrace walking, urbanism, and reducing the need for cars. One way to get there is to ignore the people that don't belong into an urban setting. 110
Lutz Gerhard @lutzgerhard.bsky.social · 07/05/2026Please list the businesses when this happens so I can make sure to never ever spend a dime there. 030
