I don’t know how this isn’t front page news but buried inside the 2026 House Farm Bill is a provision called the Save Our Bacon Act which could ruin the food system.States like California and Massachusetts have laws that say: “You can’t sell pork, eggs, or veal here if the animals were kept in extreme confinement (gestation crates, battery cages, etc..)”These are massive markets that factory farms can no longer sell into. But instead of changing their system, Big Ag is trying to change the law.The Save Our Bacon Act says: states are no longer allowed to do that if those standards are overridden by federal law. The most ironic part of the naming of this is who’s actually behind it…Smithfield Foods, the largest pork producer in the U.S., controlling approximately 26% of U.S. pork production, worth nearly $5B, will be a primary beneficiary.So will the other 3 companies which combined control nearly 70% of US pork.Yet a picture is being painted that this bill protects small American family farms.That couldn’t be further from the truth.To really save our bacon, it comes from truly humane pastured pork operations.But most importantly we need to put a stop to this legislation.Call and email your state’s senators immediately to show them you care. We have the power to put an end to it.
