This artwork depicts two planets, Theia "The Plot Device" and Proto-Earth "The Biologist's Progenitor".

Both planets are white from water clouds, which preferentially form at the poles and on nightside, whereas the dayside has patchy clouds, floating over a bluish atmosphere, the colour coming from water vapour absorption. They are both tinted by some sort of yellowish haze (perhaps sulfur haze). Proto-Earth is the larger of the two, and is depicted to be slightly cloudier less blue, and less hazy.

This artwork depicts a fictional state of the inner Solar System, 4 million years after formation, when the protoplanetary disc had just dissipated. Aside from the isolated Mercury, there are nine planets packed in the region.

In the foreground are the ten protoplanets (also known as planetary embryos or oligarchs), along with their names. Vininghktan (today known as Mercury) is depicted as an airless, cratery planet with numerous large-scale eruptions of lava. The other planets are cloudy worlds with varying shades; Ene and Nema, the next two planets, are creamish due to having sulfuric acid clouds; Dani, Kano, Yuri, and Ado are whitish as they feature dense cloud decks of water clouds. Finally, Ino, Sumi, and Mona (Mars) have patchy water cloud decks. At the centre of the image is the title of the image, "Oligarchs of the Inner Solar System".

The orbit diagram in the background shows the Sun (left) and the orbits of the protoplanets.

Theia: The Plot Device Theia is commonly depicted as a generic airless planet with lava pools on its cratered surface...essentially the popular, outdated depiction of how Earth was when it was young. Here's my take on this hypothetical planet. #astronomy #space #art #SolarSystem #planet #Theia

The image depicts the hypothetical planet Theia, which was invoked to have collided with Earth to form the Moon when the Solar System was young.

The planet is depicted as a temperate world with volcanic islands and even huge magma plume uplifts under the thick, hazy atmosphere.

Also in the image is a fictional depiction of the collisional history of the inner planets; the top of this diagram shows the surviving planets: Mercury, Venus, a fictional planet, Earth, Theia, Mars, and another fictional planet. The two fictional planets would later be ejected.
