Got this CAPTCHA today: "Pick items that help you stay entertained" I mean yes, obviously video games, but I grew up in the 80s - I can entertain myself with anything 😅
CAPTCHA that says Pick items that help you stay entertained. In a 3x3 grid, there are video game controllers, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and a shovel

I bought Wingspan, the mobile game by @monstercouch.bsky.social, after @antioedipus3000.bsky.social introduced me to the physical board game last night. Pleasantly surprised to see the Philippine Eagle is in the tutorial for the Asian expansion! 🇵🇭

Just want to shout out to Game UI Database - it's a resource I use frequently to find UI/UX references for games. Tonight I needed to look a screen up on my phone for someone, and of course the site's filters work beautifully on mobile. Thank you @eddcoates.bsky.social 🙏 www.gameuidatabase.com

My 9 games: Mass Effect 2, Journey, Thousand Arms, WarCraft III Frozen Throne, RF Online, Donkey Kong Country, Mirror's Edge, The Dig, and Final Fantasy XII

For everyone who's afraid to put their games up for early feedback because the art is "not done": If Slay the Spire 2 can do it, so can you. These epoch thumbnails have zero impact on gameplay and even add some charm. So don't wait for perfection: get feedback from your players early! #gamedev

Sent my level design students to go around campus for 20 minutes and take photos of textures to tell a story. I gave them secret themes. Did the exercise myself over lunch break to test, and it's fun but hard 😅 Here's what I found for "cozy magical school", from a box, a chair, and my water bottle.

Currently fiddling with Inform, as I want to use this in my Game Writing class this term I'm a bit worried this could be too intense for a non-technical class; none of them will have dev experience BUT. Come on. How cool is this?! The left image is the natural language code. The right is the game.
A screenshot of my Inform natural language code. For example it says The description of the pencil is Sharp! A screenshot of what the player sees. For example if the player types x pencil, the game says Sharp!

First time to try @todoist.com as I had a bunch of schoolwork to rush, plus random tasks I never get around to doing. I liked their branding that it was a place for you to dump your to-dos so you can deal with them at the right time. Well I just cleared today's list and it feels gooood #todoistzero

I also want to shout out to my husband who was in the audience, taking photos and videos of me onstage. He also bought me a Psyduck from the Nintendo booth to help absorb my anxiety 😂 And it worked! I brought it backstage with me and it kept me calm. If I chair again next year, I'm bringing it 🦆 4/4

I posted my official gamescom asia recap/thanks on LinkedIn, so I'll post behind-the-scenes thoughts here instead 😜 Being session chair for Day 2 Stage 2 was super cool. I did a tech rehearsal the day before, and on the day, I introduced each session, ran Q&A after, and kept the flow on time. 1/4

It's almost three weeks since I left my job. I thought I'd be taking a break, but instead I've done a talk, a podcast recording, a game UX review, a teaching demo, and a teaching interview. Whew! 😅 Not complaining, just amused that life hasn't slowed down. At least I snuck in 3 days at the beach ⛱️

After 11 incredible years, today is my last day at Altitude Games. Looking back, I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve built: an international remote studio with a great work culture, making games that people love. As the last co-founder to move on, I leave knowing Altitude is in great hands.

I'm on holiday this week and I've been playing three different games: - Tiny Tina's Wonderlands on the Steam Deck - Proverbs on Steam desktop - mo.co on Android I enjoy them all equally for very different reasons 😊 Does anyone else play several games at once? What's your current list?

When you were first starting out as a woman game dev in the 🇵🇭, what was it like? How much has changed since then? Being the only 👧 22 yrs ago = having to laugh at male humor / endure some harassment, gamers not believing I was a dev even with my name on the box, and fighting my way to the top. (1/2)

What have been the most influential games you've played that led you to a career in game design? While I fell into my career by accident,I loved these 3 games growing up and they taught me a lot: - Donkey Kong Country (SNES) for level design - The Dig (PC) for narrative - Tetrinet (PC) for mechanics

What aspects of game dev do you like the most? When the team has an idea ("What if we...") and days / weeks later, it's alive and playable in the build. It was just words in a conversation, and now it's in the game! Still magical to me. That and the teamwork: it takes a village to make things happen

Which do you do more: consume art or produce art? Consume! Most of my job is either strategy (how do we design fun experiences for our players?) or guiding designers in their own projects. Our design team produces the art, I just assist. I find other ways to be creative, but I wouldn't call it art

We got a Steam Deck this year and it was a game changer - I'm actually PLAYING on Steam! Granted, I started with Dave the Diver and re-emerged in a daze six months later 😁 A bulk of these games were from judging game awards too - more of that in 2025 please!

Haven't had much time to explore Bluesky yet, been going with my husband @carljavier.bsky.social to his art / film events. Completely different world from gaming (which is refreshing), and makes me think about games as art. But I'm 3 days behind on my Squad Busters dailies! 😱 Anyway this is him!
