I talked with Joko Anwar about Ghost in the Cell, where supernatural horror collides with corruption, injustice and collective survival. Really enjoyed getting into what the film is actually angry about.

Jack Haven completely rearranged the way I think about slasher villains. We talked Little Death, the history of the trans monster, Michael Myers, queer cinema and the idea that maybe the killer isn't the threat. Maybe the killer is the load-bearing wall. ihorror.com/jack-haven-t...

One of my favorite things about horror is how a tiny indie film can feel more dangerous than a studio movie with ten times the budget. Limitations do not kill horror. Sometimes they give it teeth.

Harpoon is three awful people on a boat and it is one of the meanest, tightest little films of the last decade. Ninety minutes, nowhere to go, everybody deserves it. If you want a horror comedy where nobody gets redeemed, start there.

One thing queer horror consistently understands is that transformation isn't automatically tragedy. Sometimes becoming something new is the happiest ending available.

Ghostface is a role. Michael Myers becomes The Shape through a mask. Leatherface chooses the face each moment requires. Horror has always known identity is constructed. It only becomes frightened when trans people claim the right to construct our own. lunagrayhorror.substack.com/p/horror-has...

I keep thinking about how often horror treats “the home” as something unstable instead of safe. Not just haunted houses, but families, inheritances, marriages, pregnancies, old rooms no one talks about. The genre understands that domestic life can be its own locked door.
