oh. i'm getting so many brain worms from this scenario. lumina would be lost, bereft of purpose, and in fugue state she inevitably makes her way to werlyt.

gaius's days in terncliff are uneventful but pleasant. he spends his free time near the memorial to his wards, reading to the sound of the ocean waves.

lately he senses an individual who is frequently following him and observing from afar. if this is an assassin sent to kill him, they're doing a poor job of it. perhaps a scorned citizen of a region he had previously conquered now seeking personal revenge.

but they never make any move to approach him. always observing him from a distance. always out of sight.

one day as he walks past an alleyway he swore he sensed them spying at him from, he thinks he can faintly hear crying.

it's a full week of this before he decides to nip this in the bud. he doesn't want to make a scene in the town square, in front of the children. in front of allie. he sensed their presence behind an abandoned house earlier, and that's where he finds them, sitting against the wall, curled in on themselves.

a hyuran woman. she only noticed his presence when he rounded the corner, and she seems distraught at having been caught, but he notes she makes no moves to attack, her movements more indicative of wanting to hide yet realizing the futility.

"state your business. are you a spy? for whom do you report to?"

the hyur makes a mildly placating gesture with her hands as she scrambles to her knees. "n-no! none such a thing. i mean you no harm, i assure you. i apologize. i forgot how perceptive those third eyes of yours tend to be." the corner of her mouth briefly lifts in a smirk, and just as quickly it's gone.

gaius's brow furrows. "i'll ask again. state your business."

as she lifts herself to stand, the hyur's eyes dart about as she tries to think of her answer. "you... know the warrior of light, do you not?"
