I think I need a social media break. Again. It's just shouting into the void. I don't think that's good for anyone. Sigh. I tried.

35 Years Ago Today. The opening act was Technotronic (Pump Up the Jam). Madonna at her most fierceness! I remember being riveted, on the edge of my seat. It wasn't until "Holiday" when we could release and dance. Cathartic stuff, for sure.

"Nobody's Diary" Alison Moyet at The Fillmore, San Francisco. (The audience singalong part sounded better in person, if I'm honest)

Alison Moyet at The Fillmore last night. She was spectacular! A terrific retrospective setlist of 40 years a solo artist, plus the Yazoo (Yaz) hits we all remember. Seeing her has been on my bucket list forever. Such a great night!! [Love her movements too]

16 Years Ago Today! I've been a fan since the first time "Closer to Fine" was a hit (1989) and still can't believe I got to hear them live. It was a great setlist, generous with fan favorites and deep cuts. I still think about their stories told between songs. Such a terrific, energetic concert!

16 Years Ago Today. I was too old for general admission standing room tickets back then (and now). But Keane's bathed-in-light sound was memorable, as was the Helio Sequence opening act. My shins still hurt though.

PARADE. First time seeing it, truthfully felt like I witnessed it. The touring company was outstanding. Beautifully sung. Cleverly staged. I overheard conversations and the show may have offended some patron's delicate sensibilities and I'm glad about that. Just heartbreakingly unforgettable 💔🎶

Celtic Music Festival is *always* a good time and this year's was no exception. Weather was spectacular! People-watching was terrific! The convivial fun was as best as I hoped!!

35 Years Ago Today: I can still hear the chant, "We are a part of the rhythm nation!" [Wish I could still fit into the tour tshirt]

I wondered if something else could be a "conclave" but AI says it's only 4 chosing the pope. Basically it's a meeting but locked in, kinda like jury duty. AI: "Conclave" is derived from the Latin "com" (together) and "clavis" (key), re the isolated, secret setting where the cardinals vote. 🗝

Reading a Brunetti mystery is usually fun, like visiting an old friend. But UNIFORM JUSTICE was cold. Diabolical corruption, evil death and lies. And NOT fun. I don't read 2 in a row of any series but I needed to find my "friends" and dream about Venice, fine food and family. So, I'm going in!

Admittedly, occasionally I do like reading bad reviews: "The streamer’s Broadway debut, now in residence at the Marquis Theatre, is a chaotic fire hose of fan-service with enough sensory stimulation to make even the most experienced gamer want to puke just a little." wapo.st/42rK549

Review | The ‘Stranger Things’ Broadway show is a terrifying cash grab

“Stranger Things: The First Shadow,” Netflix’s new stage extravaganza, is a brand tentacle aimed at existing fans, and it may leave newcomers in the dark.

I'm a sucker for disco balls and floating confetti. 😁 Kylie Minogue was rump-shakingly fun and surprisingly moving ✨️

Luke Warm Trumpet @lukewarmtrumpet.bsky.social · 23/04/2025

Yup, Kylie Minogue was fun. An impossibly energetic 2-hour set. We were in disco heaven ✨️ Felt great to get away from the world's mayhem, even for a bit. And Rita Ora as opener was an inspired choice.

Dinner out tonight! Patrons in either baseball jerseys or glitter blazers w matching sparkling cowboy hats. I'm left playing a game I invented, "Where are they going later?" Choices are: Giants game or Kylie Minogue concert. Man, this is fun. And difficult!

Whatevs. 🤷‍♂️ Now, when I say I'm obsessed with this record, I mean I bought it yesterday and have played it from start to finish a dozen times with no end in sight. Meet me at the Lise fan club! ❤️

24 Years Ago Today: Dawn Upshaw One of my favorite singers. This was one of the first recitals I'd been to like this. Little did I know how rare it would be. I haven't seen her concerts offered anywhere near where I live. Another reason why I remember it fondly; it was a real treat.

Songs like this make my brain kinda split. On one hand Perry and the Fontaine Sisters sing beautifully. The big band is top-drawer. On the other hand, it's the type of song used in movies or TV these days when something awful is happening like a grizzly murder. Today, I'm hearing it as the former. 🎶

Just 3 episodes. Britbox. At times it felt like a Lifetime movie but with orgies. Mostly it was marvelous. Made me cry. Made me search out the actor Fra Fee. Both young men will have long successfull careers. I'm still thinking about this the next day. 📺 💓

I hereby invoke my 100-page rule. If the book I'm reading sucks by page 100, I stop. I rarely use this rule. In this instance, I'm quiting the entire book series. I enjoyed the first 5 or 6 books but the protagonist remarried and the husband is awful. The tone changed too. Nope. Life's too short. 📖

It was fine. Watching this opera performed in modern street clothes, no sets besides a few risers and props, and the orchestra on stage felt off-putting. Especially when said orchestra played beautifully, the chorus sang terrificly, and the lead soprano was marvelous. 🤷 Opera is hard.

32 Years Ago Today! When this popped up, I did a big "Oh yeah..." It's definitely a memorable event with Freddy Fender and Flaco Jiménez. They held it in a large convention hall with the band on a temp stage and ample room for people to dance. That event kicked off at "go" and didn't let up! 🕺💃

Originally released in 1981. I wish I'd read this in high school. Or even college. A chatty, sassy crime drama of 1979 that name-checks disco songs often. And faces ignorance with witt. Plus casual sex. Did I just read a classic? A snapshot in time? An era I'd forgotten? [I hated the book's font!] 📚
