#boston #safestreets Haviland Street is a horrible rat run and should have modal filters to prevent these kind of impatient drivers cutting down there without looking.

Near miss today at Mass Ave and Haviland St reminded me that: 1. I really need new brake pads, and 2. Mayor Wu is a massive safe streets disappointment #massbike #boston #safestreets

There was another social dinner on the Wednesday night but I took the evening off. Time for a nice hot run around the Englischer Garten, where pretty much the whole city was cooling off in the streams.
A sunset view across the Englischer Garten in Munich, with large crowds of people walking, cycling, sunbathing and swimming in the streams.

Also last Wednesday I got to show off my poster during the poster tour. As you can see I was obviously quite sceptical of my own results…
A very handsome man in a delightful patterned shirt stands next to an academic poster with his arms crossed. He looks vaguely worried.

Some highlights from the rest of the day included: * Jamie Collins on how to analyze multiscale data and hierarchical structures, * Nadine Hendriks on hip joint shape trajectories during growth, and * Adam Culvenor joining remotely from Australia to talk about post-traumatic OA.
Prof Jamie Collins (Brigham & Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School) presents the title slide for her keynote talk on "Analyzing Multidimensional Imaging Data in Osteoarthritis: Matching Methods to Questions"
A slide from Nadine Hendrik's scientific presentation on longitudinal hip shape during growth from a large population-based cohort. The slide shows methods details and examples of hip radiographs at multiple age points during growth. A slide from a recorded keynote talk by Adam Culvenor (LaTrobe University). The slide shows results from recent studies relating post-traumatic changes in joint contact force with radiographic OA.

PROBE reminds me a lot of OpenSAFELY but with a whole load more moving parts, so best of luck! I thought I could tag Ben Goldacre here, but he no longer appears to be bridged :(

We also had an update from Jos Runhaar on a new initiative called PROBE - one for all you federation freaks out there, as PROBE aims to collect disparate OA databases together into a “federated analytics” structure.
Jos Runhaar (Erasmus Medical Center, Rotterdam) presents different data federation structures (horizontal, vertical, and federated transfer learning) in an update of the first year of the PROBE initiative.

…BUT GLP-1s might? This kicked off a big discussion throughout the meeting of: 1. what the definition of a DMOAD really is/should be, and 2. whether the effect of GLP-1 agonists is just due to weight loss or some other mechanism. As discussed in a later talk by Phil Conaghan (pictured)
Prof Phil Conaghan (University of Leeds) presents a figure from a recent RCT testing the impact of GLP-1RA drugs on osteoarthritis. Two subfigures are shown, comparing change in body weight from baseline over time in GLP-1RA and placebo groups, and change in WOMAC pain score over time in the same groups.

A post by @garius.bsky.social related to recent naval events: "interesting little historical convergence in that HMS Ledbury was involved in boarding that Russian shadow fleet tanker. A previous vessel of that name had an interesting history when it came to tanker operations as well..."A "Ledbury mentioned!!" meme: a celebrating anime girl is overlaid on the Ledbury market house and wears a hoodie with a Hereford cow on it, a baseball cap saying "ask me about poetry". She also carries a 2L jug of Old Rosie and a picture of HMS Ledbury is pasted in the bottom left corner.

Here's a somewhat scummy thing that Claude does to keep you trapped in the platform: when you export a report to markdown or PDF, the reference hyperlinks aren't included! There's no technical reason for this, just keeping people tied to the service. 😤
