I picked up this tab book for Der Weg einer Freiheit's Innern album ages ago but recently have been studying it. Nikita is a fucking genius. The opening 60 bars of the first track is a masterclass in economic production of atmosphere simply climbing the Em scale using inversions on the upper strings

idk how I feel about the new Wolves in the Throne Room single. It feels a bit more like their old stuff (good) but has leaned so much into the effects that it's sonically kinda washed out and phasey. I'm no sound producer but something seems off. Maybe when the album lands it'll all work together

Visited the Fontanelle Cemetery in Napoli today. I expected a chapel built out of bones but turns out I misunderstood the meaning of "ossuary". It's not exactly that. I didn't expect to be so moved by the compassionate work of priests and the community to give dignity to the forgotten dead

Reading The Mad Ship, often I wish it'd stop its slow build-up and get moving. And then you have moments like when Paragon floats and tells Althea "don't bet on it ... Trell and I ... you haven't seen the half of us yet". Massive pay-off. This is what Hobb is so good at. I must be more patient

Walking home from the shops, the boy needs to wee. Doesn't find a suitable spot to go on the way so we agree he can do it in the front yard. He runs ahead. When I get there I find him weeing on the front steps 🤦 He seemed baffled that I thought it was an issue. Kids are so funny 😬🫠😭

I never cared much for Enslaved. I listened to their early 90s classic, Frost, a few times and wasn't moved. Never went back. A friend recommended I check out Riitiir from 2012. Blew my fucking mind, omg it's so good. I have so much to say about it.
