Very rough sketch of the #Hurrian god, Kumarbi. For someone who had a major influence on Greek mythology, there’s surprisingly very little artwork of him. #Kumarbi #Hurrianmythology #sketch #traditionalart #Hittite #artistonBluesky #mythology #Cronus #characterdesign

Sketch of the Hurrian god Kumarbi. He has a beard, a cap with two small horns, pointed-toe shoes, and robes in an X formation, and he holds a scythe in his raised right hand.

It’s theorized that The Song of Kumarbi may have been a prototype that would later influence Hesiod’s Theogony, where the Greek myth of Cronus originates.

I know everyone is drawing Jax as the woman she was meant to be, but I had to get this idea out of my head and into my sketchbook. Peeled Jax, or as I call him, JaXipe Totec, our lord the flayed rabbit. #artistonbluesky #TADC #TheAmazingDigitalCircus #Aztec #traditionalart

A sketch of Jax from The Amazing Digital Circus. His skin is peeled and he’s dressed up like the Aztec god Xipe Totec, whose name is Nahuatl for “our lord the flayed one”.

Xipe Totec is the Aztec god of agriculture, spring, rebirth, the seasons, gold, and maize. Ironically enough, Jax is afraid of corn, and since he’s holding an ear of corn, he tries holding it far away from himself.

Even more ironic, episode 8 was released on the spring equinox, and Xipe Totec was the god of spring. I’m not sure if Gooseworx knew any of this, but it is certainly an interesting coincidence.

It is with heavy sorrow that I had to say goodbye to my oldest cat, Griswold. He wasn’t feeling well, and he had to be put down. To think that he was hiding in my bedroom just this morning… if I had known today was going to be the last time I saw him, I would’ve spent much more time with him.

A warrior with a horned helmet, a tunic, and sandals. He has four eyes, as well as four arms, two of which are holding shields, one is holding a sword, and the other holding a spear.

This is based on an ancient bronze statuette sculpted sometime between the end of the Bronze Age and the beginning of the Iron Age. The statuette is currently on display at the Nuragic Sanctuary of Abini, in Sardinia.

Quick sketch of a goat-tortoise hybrid inspired by a Hurrian incense burner from Tell Bazmusian, Iraq. #creaturedesign #artistonBluesky #sketchbook #siegebeast #mythology #Hurrian #fantasy #BronzeAgefantasy #BronzeAge

Two sketches of the same goat-headed creature with a tortoise shell. One shows the creature as it appears, the other shows it carrying a siege tower on its back.

A closeup of the goat-tortoise hybrid. Even without the tortoise shell, the “goat” has a long neck and short yet strong legs.

A closeup of the other sketch, this one looking much more like its inspiration. Smoke is even emerging from the top of the tower.

Today is the day where the surviving crew of the Alert landed at an island in the Pacific Ocean. Only Gustaf Johansen survived when he was found. #Cthulhu #ArtistsonBluesky #traditionalart #fanart #HPLovecraft #TheCallofCthulhu

Sketch of the awakened Cthulhu emerging from his tomb in R’Lyeh, having just grabbed three men (Donovan, Guerrera, and Ångstrom), causing three other silhouetted men (Parker, Briden, and Johansen) to retreat.

The perspective is all warped and unclear, with spheres that look convex from one end looking concave from another. As H. P. Lovecraft describes it, the geometry is “abnormal, non-Euclidean, and loathsomely redolent of spheres and dimensions apart from ours” with “broad impressions of vast angles and stone surfaces—surfaces too great to belong to any thing right or proper for this earth, and impious with horrible images and hieroglyphs.”
