Size matters. Some states in US are larger than my country, however if you want to have a centralized procurement of medecine, scale is extremely important. Can you do with for medium sized cities?

Tom, maybe twenty years ago the US was like you describe. Today I don’t think it is. Even people which are not focused on politics vote based on tribe not ideology. How do you explain such that such a radical shift in the ideology of the rebublican party provoked a churn of 10% of their voters.

For decades republican media system pushed their voters from center right and right to hate against the others. An extreme movement that became Maga. There is not enough center right people today to be a relevant political force in US. The risk is the same happening to the left.

What puzzles me is that in this discussion rarely is mentioned that in2017 when he took over, the USA had an agreement with Iran that sstop them from enriching iranium to make nuclear weapon. He rip off that agreement and now is looking for a solution to a problem he created.

The most favorable interpretation would be he only now saw the consequences of actually doing what he supported. Still, even this benign interpretation would require him to do this one year ago, not now.

The trademark of this type of regime is that, if you choose your team based on mindless loyalty, you don’t get competent people.

I’m not following Gina campaign, but Talarico is much more focused on corruption, including how a group of billionaires are focused at corrupting the American democratic system to increase their wealth than Fascism. Which makes sense, most Americans only have a problem if it impacts them.

You elected a narcisistic troll as president. Not exactly “news”.

This is beyond the let them eat cake phase. It’s the let them eat a full party celebration phase. I wonder how many trucks could be filled with what that party costed.

To be clear Adam, we don’t want the US to return to the central role it played in the last 80 years. Not because we don’t want to rely on what 10 thousand people do in Wiscosin but because relying too much on one country is a bad model. We would be happy that US citizens believed in democracy.

People are less used to inflation now than in the seventies (and yes I was alive in the 70’s)

I think this people don’t understand what is coming their way. They are facing a party that sees then not as citizens but as enemies. If they loose by little they will not accept the result. policy disputes is a nicety when what is in jeopardy is your ability to have a voice. Things can get worse.

Guys, you elected him. Don’t expect he will let go of power peacefully. He didn’t in 2020 when some people around him that were not like him. The 2026 and 2028 efforts will be much more organized, now that everyone in power thinks like him. You are his enemy, you should understand the consequences.

Taxes and losses are completely different things Mark. The upside of an investment must be interesting enough to cover the risk of a loss. Tax is a redistruting system of income that provides for services being rendered by the state to its citizens. Capital gain exceptions should be targetted.

I was just clarifying that in Europe everyone knows that Healthcare is paid by our taxes and that out personal tax rates are above other countries. As I mention in another comment, something wrong with a health system when you pay 18% of GDP in healthcare.

luisbok.bsky.social @luisbok.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
Obviously the healthcare is paid by taxes. As taxes are assimetric the ones than earn more contribute more. It is a sign of a society that protects itself, and the less fortunate have a level of protction. Something that honors me as one of those that contribute more.

I will not argue that the different European models are the right fit for the US. However, you should consider fixing your model because the way it is, you are paying 7-8% more of your GDP with your health (public+private) and you aren’t getting better results.

He not knowing that was unwinable should just be a lesson learned for him. He is a comedian. Trump not being informed or not listening to the warnings of people that actually know the implications of a war with Iran is the reason the world has to deal with this mess.

Some people that support authoritarian leaders dream of a god like figure that takes the right decisions (for them). This never happens. Any quality they may have soon disapear and all shortcomings quickly become dominant. Power corrupts. Other are in this for the corruption from the start.

Here I have to agree with JVL. What people outside the US realized is that the American people changed. Despite being the richest country in the world they still want more. And their allies are more at risk than their rivals. So they must become rivals too. The problem is not trump is the propaganda

Is that important if the reference is fascism and racism. Having a difference of opinion on policy doesn’t make you a fascist or a racist. Having trump as your president should have made the difference clearer.

The lack of courage of political representatives is surely important, but reflect the people that elect them. More important is that they fear for their lives and their family if they go out of line. A democratic regime that allows politicians to be intimidated without a public outcry is condemned.

Unpopular opinion. He is not failing, his only objective is getting richer and he is achoeving that big time. He is also getting all the important people begging him for stuff - he is doing great. The fact that the rest are getting poorer is not a problem to him. The only minus is being so inpopular

Aspiring is different than actual being. Because you have to acknowledge that you failed to meet the standard. US did that a number of time in their history and sometimes course corrected. When you deny your aspirations and tell the world that you have been lying to them all the time, it’s bad.

The issue is not if there is a problem with Academia. There are problems everywhere. The issue is how important are the problems in Academia compared to the problems you have elsewhere, including the congress, the justice system and the institutions protecting your democracy(inc. Media).
