This is the worst form, imo, I would appreciate it if it was intentional, and the surface layer of information had to be dismantled by the reader, like an unreliable narrator. Of course the series' target audience is children, but I wish there had been less hand holding. (11/12)

So in the series there is no delay between the hint and the reveal, as in right after the reader picks up on something, they're given the answer. You're not even encouraged to backtrack or think about it, it's just given to you by the narrator, delayed maybe by a few seconds. (10/12)

But for lesser, more novel callbacks, I really think it should be left unsaid, or at least delayed by more than a turn of the page. A reader should be pushed to take initiative and pay attention, rather than be spoon-fed the whole picture. (8/12)

however, turning the page, it's said that she *is* that spy that had been sent, which in a way negates the readers' need to be attentive, since information isn't left in the dark to be discovered, but rather given out freely. Which, for important things is very much necessary. (7/12)

For example, at the start of the book the Queen of England sends a spy into a household in France, and later on a character in that household notes that there's a new person around, even saying her name. I went into the book thinking it was going to be like ASOIAF, where because I hadn't been attentive enough while reading I had missed important subtext. So I'm reading the book extra carefully, however, unlike in ASOIAF, the reader isn't rewarded for this in the same way. (5/12)

So GRRM writes from his characters' perspective, and leaves a portion of the plot between the lines, but the other side of the coin is in Maurice Druon's 'The Iron King', where information is given to you by a narrator. (4/12)
