Hugged my husband for the first time in over 10 months yesterday after what is easily the worst deployment in his 18+ year career. Kidnapped a world leader, fought a fire, 3 extensions, stranded in Greece at one point, started a war. We both need a nap. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Replacing the E-3 has been a debacle from the start, and just recently the Trump administration tried to cancel the replacement contracts. It is possible to use Hawkeyes for some of the tasks, but they're not a direct substitute for the mission of the AWACS. Huge blow to the Air Force. (3/3)

Another option is retrieving one of the scrapped E-3s we have in a boneyard and trying to bring it back to life. This would take months and there's no guarantee it would be feasible since none of the parts are manufactured anymore, so we would have to cannibalize things from other planes. (2/)

Losing an E-3 Sentry when you only have 16 remaining is bad. It gets even worse when you realize that we're still 2-3 YEARS from the first replacement aircraft being delivered. One solution may be to beg Australia to let us use their E-7s, which is the modern equivalent. (1/)

For a few brief years I was a mediocre ATC, and I cannot express my rage with a system that would put the burden of Tower and Ground at a major facility one a single individual, AT NIGHT IN THE RAIN. From all angles this controller was set up to fail. A 100% avoidable tragedy. Nothing will change.
