Had a blast hanging out with Lee Miao at the ALA Conference! So grateful to the Eastern PA SCBWI leadership for booking a spot at ALA this year. In an hour & a half, I was able to hand out 20 copies of Slip to eager readers and libraries. Mission accomplished. #americanlibraryassociation

This week, a (middle-aged, white dude) friend told me he finished reading Slip while on a work trip. Said he enjoyed it. But most importantly, he said he passed it on to a friend who has a daughter he thinks needs it. And THAT is why I wrote Slip.

Berks Celtic Fest this Saturday where it’s supposed to be a cool 84 degrees. (Which will feel like a cold front after this week…) Come celebrate all the Celtic music, dance, food, & drink. Buy yourself a new book, escape reality for a short time, & revel in your ability to embrace empathy.

Librarians, come see me at ALA (Booth 2366) on Friday! I have 30 free copies of Slip to give away to get into school and community libraries. (My other books will be available for sale, too!) #alaconference #ala #freebooks #teenreads

In between attacks on human rights, destruction of climate, and hatred and violence spewed online and in-person, good things CAN still happen. Never forget to celebrate them. They matter. Lifelong dream? Accomplished today. Thanks for the warm welcome @sfwa.bsky.social!

Physical limitations mean I can’t be marching today. I’m with you in spirit. Pics from 2017 when I WAS able to attend the Women’s March in DC & a local protest after nazis marched in Charlottesville. Today? Today I will be amplifying your photos, your experiences, your stories. Reposting all day.

Remember that whole “Just say no” campaign of the 80s? I think we should bring it back. Seriously. Stop obeying in advance.

I compiled some of the Kickstarter data. The reach is amazing. 17 states & 1 Canadian province! All from one teeny tiny little project you helped fund! THANK YOU! I just placed an order for my author copies of Slip, which means I’ll be mailing them out to my supporters in about 3 weeks!

My latest stray is finally getting comfortable enough to not only eat in my yard, but to play & relax here. Soon, he’ll be trapped & neutered & probably returned back outdoors where we’ll continue to take care of him. Maybe he’ll surprise me & want to be an indoor cat, but I’m not counting on it.

L Ryan Storms @lryanstorms.bsky.social · 07/03/2025

I don’t think any thank you could be enough. But I am really, really grateful. THANK YOU! As an aside, if you’re a teacher or librarian who would like a free copy of Slip for your space, please let me know here: forms.gle/kVJfjitcRAHQ...

My Kirkus review for Slip came in today. I couldn’t be more pleased. I am so glad others see the value in this story. Yes, it’s entertainment. But it’s also so much more than that. It’s a handbook for what healthy relationships should look like. It’s a guidebook for the anxious. ❤️

"DEFTLY BALANCES MAGICAL REALISM WITH A SENSITIVELY OBSERVED PORTRAIT OF A TEENAGE GIRL STRUGGLING WITH DEBILITATING PANIC ATTACKS. A THOUGHTFUL AND SATISFYING BLEND OF MAGICAL REALISM AND ROMANCE."

Talk about a glowing review! IndieReader had some absolutely amazing things to say about Slip. It’s no secret that I love this story. I do. It is the story of my anxious-girl heart. To have PJ’s story about mental health (and first love, duh) be recognized in such a way is a complete honor. ❤️

Focus on the things you CAN do. Here and now. This cat has been through my yard for a few weeks. She’s thin, not eartipped, & clearly hungry (has tried to stalk the chickens more than once) so yesterday I started putting food out. This is something I can do. Establish routine, provide food, TNR.

Almooooooost. $829 more & I can donate 150 copies of Slip to libraries and schools. Give this post a boost, a share, a like - whatever it takes to get seen. The project is fully funded so you are guaranteed to receive whatever reward tier you choose! www.kickstarter.com/projects/lry...

People say that being a school board director is a thankless job, but sometimes it’s not. Yesterday, each of our directors got a framed photo of some of our elementary kids and a specific book dedicated to the library in their name. And the book choice!!! 🔥 It’s like they know me…

YOU helped me reach my goal of $2500 to get Slip published. Now I want to raise $1500 more to send 150 copies of Slip to libraries & schools Can we do it? (As of 2/17/25, the current total sits at $3,031 as I received an offline donation yesterday!) www.kickstarter.com/projects/lry...

Kickstarter stretch goal! Help me raise an additional $ 1500 and Tu donate 150 copies of Slip to schools and libraries and into the hands of teen readers!

I promise at some point soon I’ll start posting things other than the Kickstarter I’m running. But. You asked for a stretch goal and now I want to reach it. (Remember, the project is already fully funded, so you’re guaranteed to receive whatever reward tier items you select!)

Okay, my fellow anxious bibliophiles, you've officially blown me away in funding this project so quickly. If I can raise an additional $1500 in funds (total goal of $4000) I will donate 150 copies of Slip to classrooms and to school and community libraries. www.kickstarter.com/projects/lry...

Words will never be enough. And yet, they’re all I have. Thank you! 🙏

WE DID IT!

No, YOU did it!

You’ve helped me successfully fund this campaign in 2 1/2 days and there is no way I will ever be able to express my gratitude for your excitement, your belief in me and my work, and your willingness to financially support this project in such uncertain times.

“Thank you” could never be enough. And yet, it’s all I have. I love you, friends and family. I am so grateful for each and every one of you. You made this happen with every share and every word of encouragement.

Just a reminder that the Kickstarter campaign for SLIP launches in 3 days and that I will be incessantly posting about it for the next month. Please help me get this project funded. Helping kids deal with anxiety may be more relavent than ever… It all starts February 4th. Mark your calendar.

Hey. The kids might be extra anxious right now. Here’s a book about dealing with anxiety (albeit in more “normal times,” but you get the point.) #BookSky #Anxiety

One of my favorite things to do when I have a new book coming out is to create an animated book cover. I already love the magic of this cover art. What’s the harm in adding a little more magic? (Oh, and you should preorder SLIP, too. You can do that here: www.fireflybookstore.com/slip/)

Visited @pocketbooksshop.bsky.social for the first time yesterday. Came home with a couple of new reads. What a delightful indie bookshop in Lancaster, PA. If you haven’t yet been, head over. Like now. It’s Saturday. Forget the other obligations. Treat yourself. #BookSky #indiebookstore

It is way too early to post this ridiculousness, but @fireflybookstore.bsky.social asked me to share some thoughts on why I wrote SLIP. So here we are. My children have assured me this is a 7/10 on the cringe scale. This is why I never did #BookTok. 🤣

011

L Ryan Storms @lryanstorms.bsky.social · 22/01/2025

Similar vibes for my latest (Slip, releases in April):

Dedication reads: For the anxious kids, you’re not alone. And for Mom and Dad, who raised an anxious kid with love, grace, and humor

011

L Ryan Storms @lryanstorms.bsky.social · 22/01/2025

So Savannah, GA is fun right now. Kid was making fun of the salt on the roads earlier & of the emergency prep emails. Kid forgets the south doesn’t have to deal with this often… 😂

I rescued her & her brother Finch at 7 weeks old when they were sick & living on the streets. I got myself bit & had to get rabies shots. They are brats, but I adore them & they make our household so happy! (Well, older cat Evee may or may not be happy, but she shares the backdoor views anyway.)

This is why I wrote Slip. And why I hope the #Booksky community will help me get the word out about it. Anxious teens deserve to see themselves as heroes, too. (6/6)
