liz polcha @lpolcha.bsky.social · 11/08/2026This fall I'm teaching Literature and Science & our central novel is Jeff VanderMeer's Annihilation. We are going to spend some time at the Academy of Natural Sciences looking at field journals and talking about colonialism and botany - somehow I have the most success teaching this class via horror 110
liz polcha @lpolcha.bsky.social · 04/12/2025I'm working on my course calendars for the winter term while wrapping up teaching in the fall term, but I am very excited to teach this intro to feminist theory class for the first time at Drexel. The class is going to move slow and focus on 1-2 readings per week, with lots of note-taking by hand 010

liz polcha @lpolcha.bsky.social · 18/08/2025My Intro to DH class this fall at Drexel is 🤓jam packed🤓 with class trips to archives. We will be doing more hands-on exercises with non-digital media, including an assignment where the students check out (from me) a discman or walkman, and explore the CD or tape collection at the Free Library 071

liz polcha @lpolcha.bsky.social · 02/12/2023The Legacy Center’s collections on women physicians in the 19th century are incredible & another highlight was this newspaper account of the first western trained Filipina doctor Honoria Acosta-Sison, which interestingly uses her success to disparage midwives in the Philippines 100
liz polcha @lpolcha.bsky.social · 02/12/2023The 1890s women physicians used the embroidered pillow to adapt the more domestic genre of the sampler & add more scientific and potentially more liberating details, such as the bicycle and this signature by two women, with interlocking hearts, who were possibly a couple 100

liz polcha @lpolcha.bsky.social · 06/09/2023I’m teaching Intro to DH this fall quarter to mostly English majors. it’s a totally new 10-week class within a dept that has no digital humanities presence. I want the class to be gentle, fun, encouraging, and highly collaborative & I’m looking for ideas or suggestions of assignments or readings ✨ 83613
