A @starkeycomics.bsky.social graphic shows just how many of the 'gen' words are related. Gemini, genocide, gentle, gentleman, agenda, gentrified, genes, gender, general, Genesis, genitals, genetics, genius... My guess would be that these (gin, ginger, ginseng, jinx, Jenga) aren't cognates?

Thanks @litdrive.bsky.social for a great #LitdriveCPD25 The speakers gave so much insight that informed my talk on grammar in the schools. Secondary teachers are keen to use metalanguage to teach at sentence-level, but rarely supported to build on the grammar brought from primary.

Great to hear a talk from Prof. Jenny Cheshire on how Multicultural London English has developed over the last 20 years with features such 'man' as impersonal pronoun & 'still' in utterance final position. #MLE #LanguageVariation #Dialect
