I’ve been roped into teaching a section of 7th grade vocab/morphology every day. On Fridays we can opt out of the guided work and I would love to do a novel study of The Hobbit. Has anyone done such a thing? Any suggestions as to lesson planning?

Teachers are constantly being asked to teach outside their subject area. Even as a media coordinator/ librarian I need a license to teach. The district knows this and they will ask a ELA teacher to move schools to teach math. It doesn’t make sense.

I am a librarian in a middle school. Some of these kids are brilliant but lack basic knowledge of “how the world works” and it’s upsetting. We try our best but AI and a generation of kids raised on screens isn’t helping.

Guy in front of me asked the owners of the donut shop if they were Mexican(they are Filipino) because “ain’t everyone in California from Mexico?” I feel like I should carry history books and a map of the world with me everywhere I go. The failure of the American education system is stunning.

As I transitioned into public education last year the imposter syndrome was real. It takes time to build that subject knowledge. I’ve been a librarian for years and can research for days. Teaching 8th graders video journalism this year has me searching far and wide for material that doesn’t suck.

I noticed that the ads in both RDU and Newark airports were overwhelmingly sponsored by AI companies. I guess they are trying to catch the business travelers because Gam Gam from Des Moines isn’t in their demographic.

Saw my first K-pop show last night. I’ve been to hundreds of shows and this was one of the best I’ve seen. BigBang might not be as big as BTS but they sold out MetLife Stadium and had the crowd going from the start.

All good advice. I grew up reading newspapers and watching the news. These kids… not so much. I’m having them learn basic filmmaking now with some journalism thrown in. Baby steps

He’d been a bit out of sorts lately. Nothing too troubling. This morning he began having trouble breathing. By the time we got to the emergency vet he passed away. At least we were with him.

I am devastated, as is my family. Meowser was our little, well not so little guy. He greeted us at the front door, knew when it was bed time and would crawl on our bed and loved being around us. I’ve never felt grief like this. It will get better, but right now a piece of me is missing and I’m sad.

So I got my wife tickets to see BigBang in NJ in September. I wasn’t the biggest fan but after watching clips from their first show back today, I am pumped. Having worked as a tour manager in a past life, the production geek in me is so excited. They put on a hell of a show.

Well trying to address it in interviews has been hard. I feel that a candidate should be able to address toxic work environments as a reason to move jobs. But so many places see that as a red flag and pass on the applicant. I hate the whole process.

That makes two of us. I’ve had so many interviews that were amazing. As soon as they said they were calling references, radio silence. Two different job offers rescinded after they checked references. My references are rock solid. I did some digging and yeah he is an asshole.

He told me that he was very protective of his public image. I’m like dude it’s a yearbook. My students were so upset that they couldn’t sell them. Way to be a leader in public schools.

My contract at a public school wasn’t renewed for this coming year. My principal has been blackballing me at every opportunity because he didn’t like his yearbook photo that my kids used. First he pulled the yearbook from being sold and now his is making sure I don’t step foot in a classroom again.

My wife worked full-time through grad school and her cohort all had spouses who supported them. She was told that she didn’t have the dedication to do art full-time because she could spend all day in the studio. When I was in grad school we had 5 jobs between the two of us and barely scraped by.

I love working in public schools but I think there is something happening at the district levels in this area. The corporate job search is wild. Why subject someone to multiple interview rounds? I would think 1-2 with the corresponding people would suffice.

I am still looking for a job. I’ve had two public school jobs rescinded after accepting due to “staffing changes”. Ed tech and corporate job applications are draining because of the expectation that an applicant will sit through 7 rounds of interviews or panel presentations. It’s exhausting.

I would love to see a study on the lack of engagement on AI created marketing materials versus traditionally created. For me, AI slop all looks the same so I tend to skip whatever it is. It doesn’t show inventiveness or originality at all. Every poster looks exactly the same.
