I’ve been listening to The Orphans of Davenport and it has occurred to me (much later in my career than it should have) that “Terman’s Termites” wasn’t a longitudinal study about outcomes for Gifted kids because he cared about outcomes for Gifted kids. It was about Eugenics.

My New Year's resolution is to accept my limitations and accommodate them (as long as it's not interfering with functioning or whatever). Today I have cleaning people at my house doing alllllll the things. Including organizing my kitchen and doing laundry. It's amazing 😭

Friendly advice for interns or early career school psychs, practice looking at parents when you are in a meeting that requires a translater. Remember you are speaking to the parent, not the translater. Look at the parent when you are speaking to them and when the translater is translating for them.

I had big plans to get ahead on reports over Thanksgiving break. Instead, I enjoyed every minute of the break with my family. Today, I went back to work and caught up on all of those reports. Turns out keeping healthy work life boundaries is real (sometimes…😉).

I think one of the biggest mistakes we are making when discussing the youth mental health crisis is making it all about the kids instead of making it about the adults, environments, and social expectations that are creating instability and uncertainty.
