Yeah, i get that you mean. If you care for the dolls people think its creepier for some reason? I just really lament the idea that sex dolls are just a way to own a woman who can't say no and never anything else. I grew up with a 3ft tall "my size Barbie" and now i'm an adult who wants the same xD

And i think the idea that we have no material needs exists as a result. If its just an identity with no material basis, then we dont need community, or support, or have special mental or healthcare needs, and arent at risk of violence or politically scapegoated. I think a lot of therian community has shifted to have the tail wag the dog, when the animal identity really comes as the logical conclusion of being nonhuman already. I won't tell anyone they can't sit with us, but i struggle to relate to this identity-first wave of therians for this reason.

It reminds me of how radqueers define "trans-" as "identifying as something you aren't biologically" and how many ideological nightmares its caused through that idea of transness. Identity is not a magic key to unlock BEING. It's counting yourself present as a thing, not living your life as it.

For me, identifying as a wolf is a marker of being a wolf, not what *makes me* the wolf. There are times i have disidentified with this part of myself for any number of reasons, but that did not make me anything else because identification alone doesn't do that. I can't identify my way out of it.

QP because while there's a disagreement on how therianthropy does/nt resemble transness, i think Senna makes a really good point here about identity vs materiality. It puts words to a feeling i've had for years about how therianthropy has become so idpol-heavy, and less substantive in some ways.

There are lots of things still, societally, that challenge me though. Its not just my body or an individualistic thing. Its about how we treat nonhuman animals, its about how humans view themselves as superior and unique to all other animals and subjugate the whole world as a result.

The dysphoria i've felt over my body not matching the map in my head, or the phantom limbs that i felt, caused me severe dissociation and desire to self-harm. Once I modified my body to reflect my self-image and reality, that dissociation went away and was replaced with euphoria and connection.

When I was forcibly outed to my guardians, i was told "If you're gonna think you're a dog, im gonna treat you like one" and was abused accordingly to make me stop identifying and feeling the way that I did. It wasn't the first time i was punished for the identification, no matter how i tried to hide

When I say I'm a wolf, I'm saying that since I was young, I've had feelings and instincts and behaviors that have more in common with wild canines than human apes. I've felt the phantom body parts of a wolf, with temperature and pain senses. i've had the internal self-image of being a canine.
