To confirm the threat, hero visits the illusionist home island, & nearly gets killed by the first insane hermit he meets on the beach, barely winning by sucking the guy & his entire house into the earth. The psychic backlash nearly kills hero again- the planet DOES hate killing.

It's possible to see through the illusions during time shifts but otherwise it's totally convincing. Hero dicovers that his half-brother, who was an illusionist, couldn't regenerate the neck wound and died. He's been replaced by the belly-clone of Hero, who survived and regenned-

Then he hails a ship. The crew turns out to be slavers. They throw him in the hold in abject darkness for months. When they pull him out he's a radically regenerated mass of arms and legs. They think he must be a vengeful god and beg for mercy, he tells them to leave him ashore.

Our hero comes from a clan that regenerates like Wolverine. They trade body parts to the space government via a faceless transporter device, in exchange for small quantities of metal, which they then use to make weapons to fight the other clans. As a royal, his regen is stronger.
