Kind of love the Killscreen controller edit that, as my spouse put it, “looks like a sex toy”
A completely neon pink ps5 controller that looks like it’s got silicon grip surfaces? It looks like a sex toy.

Correctly gendered at the dump today, while in shades and schlumpy clothes and inside the car.
Jessica, a white trans woman, dressed like a punk band roadie, in a black denim jacket with patches over a black hoodie, with a yellow and black trucker hat and white knock off wayfarer sunglasses. She has knuckle tattoos and a large amber pendant. Her hair is clipped behind her and she’s sitting in her car.

It’s nice to have something you built that you aren’t precious about. And I’m sorry, but she goes hard.

Put a new bridge on Kathleen, the SG-style guitar I built. Plugged and redrilled the bridge studs so I won’t half to keep backing the bridge all the way to the end of its travel, and the saddles on the Gotoh bridge give me a little more adjustment

Vegan tortiere! I might have used too much ground clove. I also spilt some clove and swept it it up with my hands and it’s still all I can smell?
A double crust pie, with holes poked in the top. A slice of tortiere, a Québécois meat pie, except the “meat” in this is seasoned and roasted walnut/cauliflower mixture base that I made myself. It is a little heavy on the cloves.

Food processors are a great time saver until you remember you don’t own a dishwasher. Made a double batch of cauliflower walnut “meat” - gonna make another vegan tourtière. I wonder what vegan boudin noir would be.

Obsessed with these fruit flavored computer cases I saw on Reddit
Six ATX cases in translucent and colored translucent plastic, like a vintage original iMac but an ATX case. There are signs stuck to them advertising them and the price in I presume Japanese. There are marked ¥125

Haute P12’s are like $40 shipped on eBay so I guess I’m going to try leverless
A black leverless fightstick, with eight buttons in two rows of four in a subtle arc on the right hand side for actions, and three buttons in an arc on the left for directions, with a slightly larger button on the lower side for up/jump. It is entirely matte black and has a row of four tiny round buttons along the top right edge and a small screen I guesss in the upper left. It’s being held by a hand

And there were four. I think last time I hacksawed the end off of these? I like the more sunken into the handle of the older two (left) that I made. Slapped on a layer of paste wax and away we go. Usage will tell if I like the larger handles better.
Four drawbore pins made of steel drift pins stuck into octagonal wooden handles. The handles on the left are birch the ones on the left beech. The beech handles are somewhat larger and the pins stick out a bit more.

Listen, I don’t know a better way to drill a 5/16” hole this deep in endgrain than with a bit and brace. I love this old bit that some craftsman had made an individual stamped holder for.
A spofford brace with a 5/16” Jennings pattern but in the non/ratcheting thumbscrew chuck. Next to it the holder for the bit and the two drawbore pins in progress. A mechanical pencil and metal pocket rule also sit on the bench. The 5/16” Jennings bit laying on the vintage wooden holder someone made. It’s a well patinated wood with a numeral 5 stamped on one end, shaped like a ln octagon with a hole bored most of its depth to hold the drill bit.

Had to grab a still from the video because the audio is mostly L feeding cats in the background - this is the quickest and most comfortable way to bevel the ends of the handles, using the same bench hook and super sharp chisel.
A hand presses the handle against a bench hook, with its thumb guiding the back of a chisel to make a paring cut across the grain to bevel the ends of the handles.

Ends chamfered and quickly blockplaned and these are smooth as butter and ready to be drilled for a tool. I’m going to use the two I finished for drawbore pins. I don’t know about the third yet.
Three octagonal handles, made of quartersawn beech, slightly wider in one direction to fit a hand comfortably, with beveled ends lay in a pile on the bench. (One still needs an end beveled)

Dividing by three in fractional inches is hard. A normal person would use metric, but I’ve grown more and more accustomed to just not using a ruler at all.
An octagonal stick laying on the bench marked out divided in length into three. (Each handle is about 5 1/3rd inches) Next to it, the antique dividers that were used to mark out the divisions and a pencil to darken the marks

After dealing with that squirrely walnut, grabbing an offcut of quartersawn beech to knock out some tools handles is such a joy!

Jessica 2, broken glass 0. I need to remove one of the slips, make a small repair an replace it, but for now I'm going to revel in the fact I installed replaceable glass in the cabinet doors without seriously injuring myself or breaking the glass.
an angled view of the walnut cabinet in progress. There are three open cubbies where drawers will be eventually, but the two bead-detailed doors above now have salvaged glass placed in them The cabinet hangs on the wall and has ornate crown molding

I built the frame saw for the leg up it gives on tricky resawing, but it’s also handy when you want identical parts and minimal cleanup.
Six identical 1/4” square walnut slips for holding the glass in place on the cabinet lay on the bench. The 1/4” walnut it was cut from is in the end vise and a mahogany kerfing plane, (a saw blade with fence and handle) that cut the pieces out lays behind it.

The grain alcohol i bought for mixing shellac also works great with TransTint dyes! I think a little medium brown will do wonders to age the poplar for the insides of the drawers.

Ended up ordering pulls from the same seller; they look lovely against the walnut, but I’m going to need larger ones for the doors, so I put in an order for the same profile but longer. Stumbling across this Indonesian brass seller on Etsy was great

The pal I made it for still plays it a lot. This is the only stage photo I have of it, when I road-tested it. I really thought that sideburn goatee combo worked for way too long
A still male-presenting Jessica in black skinny jeans wearing white and black Kangaroo sneakers, a white shirt for the band Pretty and Nice with the bands name written as an eye chart. She is playing the guitar from the previous post and has a ridiculous combination of giant mutton chops and a goatee. Like Hellboy. She has a bandanna and a flip-brimmed hat on.

There is a white drum kit with black heads that says “The Mountain Wizards” on it, and the drummer is wearing the same shirt.

Picture of a guitar I made in the early-mid aughts showed up in my memories. I had more chutzpah than skill back then but made it work.

I finally got card scraper sharpening and hook turning figured out and repeatable (info after visual description in the alt text)
An image of a card scraper with some shavings on it, surrounded by a paper envelope for a 2500 diamond lapping plate in thin steel, which is behind the envelope attached by a couple magnets to a flat block of wood. To the right, a square block of maple, and an accuburr carbide burnishing rod in a small rectangular container.

This is what I’ve switched to for card scraper sharpening and it’s just repeatable and quick. Whatever gets the job done works, this is just what I’ve done.

2500 grit diamond coated steel lapping plate attached by two counter sunk magnets to a block of wood. Lap the faces until they’re uniform sheen, then using the square block of wood to keep perpendicular, do the same to the narrow edges.

Anything harder than your scraper works for a burnisher but I’ve found the accuburr is more repeatable and foolproof for me, and I can feel the carbide dragging the hook.

Took me longer to dig out the bits than to sharpen a scraper. I probably should clean the diamond surface of swarf.
