🧬When antimicrobial resistance spreads, how do we know whether plasmids are part of the story? This is the focus of our ESCMID Postgraduate Course: Tracking plasmids for clinical and public health use, taking place 2–4 November 2026. New in Genome Medicine link.springer.com/article/10.1... Proud that ESGMAP supported this study, which shows why AMR surveillance must go beyond case counts and track MGE to understand the emergence and spread of MDR pathogens. Congratulations, Ana Santos and colleagues! #AMR #Plasmids #ESGMAP

Plasmids are some of the most powerful drivers of AMR, and understanding how they evolve is key to staying ahead. Thrilled to co-chair this session with @aphendrickx.bsky.social as we welcome Dr. Daria Frolova for a deep dive into plasmid evolution and structural variation.

🐘 In 2020, 35 elephants in Zimbabwe died mysteriously. Our new study in Nature Communications shows a Pasteurella-like bacterium with a unique mix of virulence genes - including toxins normally found in the meningitis bacterium Neisseria meningitidis. Genomics helped unlock this extraordinary case.
