Germany’s racist and inhumane policy of deterrence, tolerated by the EU, is an attack on human rights. It mocks the right to asylum and the Geneva Refugee Convention, which were established in response to Nazi Germany’s dictatorship, the Second World War, and the refugee movements connected to it.

On August 23rd, Italy’s deputy PM Matteo Salvini said, that he refuses to readmit asylum seekers living in Germany who have registered in Italy "as long there are German sea rescue NGO ships operating in the Mediterranean". But that's not how the law works.

Exactly 6 years ago today, the Louise Michel carried out its first rescue. Early this morning, our crew was alerted by the civilian emergency hotline Alarmphone to a boat in distress. Our crew was able to take all 42 people, including 14 women, on board from the crowded rubber boat. 1/3

Louise Michel still detained in port On Thursday our rescue ship MV Louise Michel entered the Sicilian port of Pozzallo. 6 Survivors from a previous rescue were disembarked by a coastguard vessel. Since then our ship has been blocked from leaving port under the so called Piantedosi decree.

55 people disembarked Yesterday the Louise Michel assisted 55 people from a rubber boat. Only because the weather was going to get worse we were assigned Lampedusa, the closest place of safety. Everyone is now on land, can rest and gather strength for the next steps of their journey. 1/4
