Loudoun Democrats press release

Loudoun Democrats Support Inclusive 2028-2029
LCPS School Calendar; Republicans Do Not
Leesburg, VA – The Loudoun County Democratic Committee supports the Loudoun County School Board’s decision to adopt the Rashid calendar option, as amended, for the 2028-2029 school year.
Loudoun County is one of the most diverse communities in Virginia, with families representing an extraordinary range of cultures, faiths, and traditions. Our public institutions should recognize and respect the diversity of the community they serve.
LCDC thanks Dr. Sumera Rashid, April Chandler, Anne Donohue, Ross Svenson, and Jon Pepper for voting in support of a diverse and inclusive school calendar that reflects the community our schools serve.
The school calendar has generated significant community discussion about instructional time, scheduling, and the recognition of religious and cultural observances. We appreciate the parents, students, educators, and community members who participated in that process and shared their perspectives with the School Board.
LCDC supports a school calendar that recognizes Loudoun’s diverse culture and population. Students and families from across our county should see their communities and traditions respected within our public school system, and families should not have to choose unnecessarily between important religious or cultural observances and their children’s education.
Developing a school calendar for a community as large and diverse as Loudoun requires balancing many considerations. Inclusion and respect for the many communities that call Loudoun home should remain an important part of that process.
Thank you to Dr. Rashid, Chair Chandler, Vice Chair Donohue, Mr. Svenson, and Mr. Pepper for recognizing that Loudoun’s diversity is one of our greatest strengths and voting for a calendar that reflects the community we are proud to call home.

Getting the word about the redistricting amendment election is key to getting it passed! You can help by displaying a VOTE YES sign in your yard to let your neighbors know the election is happening, and that a YES vote leads to fairer elections.

The Loudoun Democrats are hosting an 8-location drive by VOTE YES yard sign pickup event on Sunday, March 15 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Come by the location nearest to you and get your sign!
Algonkian District: 345 Samantha Drive, Sterling, VA 20164

The death of an American citizen during an ICE operation demands transparency and accountability. Federal law enforcement must operate within constitutional bounds with respect for human life. We stand with the victim's family and call for a full investigation, meaningful accountability and reforms.
𝗟𝗼𝘂𝗱𝗼𝘂𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘆 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗰𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗻 𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗖𝗘 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
Leesburg, VA – The Loudoun County Democratic Committee (LCDC) believes in the rule of law, equal justice, and the fundamental dignity of every person. The Committee is deeply troubled by reports and video showing an American citizen was killed during an Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation in Minnesota on Wednesday.
When any federal law enforcement action results in the loss of life, especially the life of a U.S. citizen, it demands immediate transparency, accountability, and independent oversight. Our government's authority is derived from the Constitution, and that authority must always be exercised with restraint, professionalism, and respect for human life.
This tragic incident raises serious questions about ICE's operational practices, use of force standards, and accountability mechanisms. Immigration enforcement should never come at the expense of civil liberties or basic human rights, and Virginians deserve confidence that federal agencies are acting within the bounds of the law.
LCDC stands with the victim's family and loved ones as they seek answers and justice. We join Democrats across the Commonwealth and the nation in calling for a full and transparent investigation, accountability where warranted, and meaningful reforms to ensure that no family endures such a loss again.
We remain committed to a system of public safety and immigration enforcement that reflects our shared Democratic values of justice, transparency, and respect for human dignity.

Did you know that the government funding bill has a provision that forces the DOJ to give millions in taxpayer money to at least 8 Republican Senators investigated after the Jan 6 insurrection? Not exaggerating. And when I proposed an amendment last night to stop it, House Republicans voted it down.
