It also allows you to make the screen start\stop glitching, if you really want to, via chromatic aberration (e.g. ">>> GLITCH: START" and ">>> GLITCH: STOP")

It allows you to alter the main color of the Terminal itself via Ink using a simple instruction (e.g. ">>> COLOR: 33FF33"). Can play/stop one-shot and looping sounds (e.g. ">>> PLAY: audioFileName" or ">>> PLAY LOOP: audioFileName")
An image showcasing "Ink Terminal Adventures", a framework to write and play binary-choice Interactive Fiction.

The image shows the game interface, that looks like a retro green-colored monochrome terminal, a title that says "An Apple 2 a day" and another text that says "The Terminal has now an Apple 2 green color" to showcase the ability to change the main color of the terminal itselv via Ink scripting.

This year's InkJam begins in a few hours! itch.io/jam/inkjam-2... A few years ago I made a framework to write and play binary-choice Interactive Fiction using Ink. Nothing too fancy! It's inspired by games like Reigns and Seedship but if tweaked in Unity can be altered endlessly. More below! 👇

Ah yes, I spent long hours playing Capture The Flag in this map from Unreal Tournament '99

I beat Dark Souls 2 at last. Didn't enjoy it as much as the first and it got to a point where I was about to drop it altogether while trying to beat the Crown of the Ivory King DLC. So I decided to just go for the endgame, about level 165 or so. I will go back eventually, but for now: on to DS3!
Chaotic screenshot from the Crown of the Ivory King DLC for Dark Souls 2, showing a Frozen Reindeer charging the main character out of nowhere inside an impenetrable snow storm. Not pictured: pain, cursing and internal and external screaming from the player.

I know it was likely already obvious for a loooooooong time, but it still sucks that Rare's Everwild was cancelled 💔 I hope all of the the laid off developers land on their feet (and this goes for everybody in the industry, really).
A screen from the first announce trailer for Everwild by Rare. A female-presenting person with long white hair tied in loose braids, bright limoges blue eyes, and wearing a sleeveless leather cape over the head carefully reaches out with their hand to pet a fawn-like creature with dark brown and white fur, with some orange patches of fur.

Watching the trailer for "Thousand Hells", one of the million games showcased last week: Me: "Oooh this looks like King of Dragon Pass and Six Ages!" The game: "It's a game by A#" IT FIGURES 🔥🔥 @radiofreelunch.bsky.social @kitfoxgames.com
Screenshot from the Steam page for the game "Thousand Hells: The Underworld Heists" developed by A# and published by Kitfox Games.

The image shows a UI on the left with an ongoing conversation with four other people that group with you, while on the right it shows brief descriptions of each person personality and a list of challenges you and your group are facing.Screenshot from the Steam page for the game "Thousand Hells: The Underworld Heists" developed by A# and published by Kitfox Games.

The image shows a UI on the left with a description of the scene you are playing and it shows that two slots in your party are still to be filled. On the right a list of potentially recruitable party members: two spies, a singer, a warrior, a poet. The player just had a conversation with the warrior and successfully recruited them.

Art for the adventure game "Near-Mage" by Stuck in Attic, depicting the main character in the front, with a glowing hand as if about to cast a spell, and other important characters in the background behind her.Screenshot from "Ink Terminal Adventures", a free and open source Unity+Ink framework for storylet-based binary-choice Interactive Fiction.

The interface looks like a retro amber-colored monochrome terminal and displays: text, two available choices and four resources that any given choices might alter.Screenshot from "A Landlord's Dream", a cyberpunk point and click adventure.

The image shows a low resolution game with a classic point and click interface. The scene features three characters inside a dimly lit hallway. One of them is operating on a terminal against a wall. There is a cat with led green eyes perched above a ledge, looking afraid.Screenshot from "zFRAG" a zen game in which you can manually defragment an imaginary hard drive one cluster at a time.

The image features an interface blatantly inspired by old MS-DOS based defrag software. Some of the clusters are positioned to form the word "HELLO !!!"

Mothership 1e is one of my favourite TTRPGs, and I just learned that Tuesday Knight Games released Fatherfog 0e. Free PDF available on their website, and I'm kinda sold already just looking at the art in the preview thumbnails. www.tuesdayknightgames.com/products/fat...
Art from the Fatherfog 0e TTRPG manual, depicting a dark fantasy scenery with a towering black and white grim reaper-like figure standing in front of a full moon and surrounded by dead trees and vines, fog at their feet.

FWIW, years ago I named this huge lovely Chartreux cat "Panda"

To this day I think my *two* nerdiest "I GET THE REFERENCE" moments so far have been: - hearing Teras Kasi mentioned in the Solo Star Wars spin-off. - recognizing "Konya wa Hurricane" from the first episode of Bubblegum Crisis in Scott Pilgrim Takes Off

Among other things, Sam Barlow here mentions an 1986 game called Portal, which is a very cool piece of interactive fiction that was released on multiple systems, including a *very* obscure, yet very good and comfy-to-play Macintosh 512 version!

Recent Unity versions introduce Adaptive Probe Volumes as a way to light a scene by automating the placement of Light Probes. Very convenient, except they don't apparently work with the Light Probes API, so if you need to gather data (e.g. using LightProbes.GetInterpolatedProbe) you can't (yet?).
Automated placement of Light Probes via Adaptive Probe Volumes visualized via the Rendering Debugger in Unity 6.4.

The Scene view shows a series of red spheres with different brightness according to how much the point in space they are in is exposed to light.

The scene's light comes from a baked Directional Light.

That's it: the sun next to my Bluesky handle has set. From now on expect only grimdark tales of game development, cold puns, weird music and the odd nerd post coming out of the left field. /jk

This is so cool. 1946's edition of "The Decline and Fall of The Roman Empire" by Edward Gibbon
