Just for @stewedpearsdotcom.bsky.social a better photo of the marzipan hedgehogs. Based on a German recipe from 1460. Made with almonds, sugar and rosewater, this was luxury food, rich subtleties to amuse the guests at the Lord's table. With almond spikes and pepper eyes. (Disclaimer in comments).

Flu shot time. Wheeee... I'll do the Covid one in a few weeks or so. I've had all the others though I still got Covid (or something) last Christmas. 🙄 This Christmas I'm not going anywhere. 😆

I feel like Octavia's parents are 2 stubborn idiots who made a child out of societal expectation & promptly neglected her while telling themselves they would never do such a thing. Stolas and Stella earned their intrusive thoughts & they deserve each other, but Octavia - she deserved better.

The first thing that scared me in a movie as a kid was the text crawl in Star Wars V. I was little when I saw it in theater & it starts off with loud trumpets loud and gigantic text. I wanted to leave but my sister convinced me to stay and then I loved Star Wars. Vader? He's cool. Typography? 😨💦

I thought about doing cover: All games I've ever played with cover devolve into "move guy next to wall & attack". You have to do this or you don't get the defense bonus. Often the bonus is life or death so you are basically made to do it. The design steers you into a decision so it's not fun IMO.

Lost Dragon @lostdragon.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

The overland mode is mostly visual but there are gameplay elements too: eg: If you are bleeding, using a path is faster & would get you to a town healer quicker. This matters as (non-hostile mode) is real time game clock, not turn based. The game has an internal clock & states like bleeding use it

040

Lost Dragon @lostdragon.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

Game news: In overland non-hostile movement, actors now move at speeds according to the terrain they walk on. eg: Snow is slower than grass. Paths are faster than grass. In turn-based mode (during combat) the different terrains require different amounts of energy to overcome, like a roguelike.

I saw Event Horizon on TV as an early teen. It was showing at like midnight on cable. I didn't know it was a horror movie so I went in expecting a sci-fi adventure. 😭

020

Lost Dragon @lostdragon.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

The "move swap" also now no longer only happens at a pinch point. Pathing prefers to walk around actors but if there are no legal moves it will do a move swap. It doesn't have to be a pinch point. Actors now also lerp the swap instead of jumping it.

010

Lost Dragon @lostdragon.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

Okay I nerfed the bed and chair stealing a little & added hooks for the (to be completed) ownership system. Actors trying to use unowned beds & tables will now try to find an unoccupied one first, then kick you out. Actors trying to use their own "owned" bed or chair go straight for the boot.

010

Lost Dragon @lostdragon.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

That sounds like a lot. It also sounds like little has changed since the 90s. In HS I quit doing math HW at all. In retrospect you'd think any observant teacher would've figured out my ADHD. I can look at my old report cards & see it in action lol. Well, anyhow- 60 problems is about 50 too many.

110

Lost Dragon @lostdragon.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

Since I was here I also: If you move into an occupied chair you steal that actor's chair and they say "Rude!" This also happens for beds. However -> other actors can do it to you! This is a little funny (and it's meant to be).

030

Lost Dragon @lostdragon.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

Game News: I've made a "move swap". If 2 non-hostile-to-each-other actors are in a pinch point caused by terrain (& 1 wants where the other is) - they swap positions. This will let you go past someone who is hogging a door while they contemplate life (I wish I had this at the grocery store IRL).

Game news: Actors who have "plot armor", a property I can set that makes them invincible and respawns them, should mention their miraculous recovery once in a conversation. eg: NPC: "I was swept away by the river! I'm not sure what happened after that, but... Thank goodness I survived!"

040

Lost Dragon @lostdragon.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

I've thought about this again. Why use the bail-out logic only for the end of a conveyor? The bail-out logic will now happen at the first obstruction. This provides for emergent gameplay opportunities where a player could purposefully put a blocking item in a river to allow them to bail out there.

020

Lost Dragon @lostdragon.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

Game news: Something blocks the exit of a conveyor: 1) the actor being conveyed lands in nearest adjacent walkable tile that has at least one other walkable tile adjacent to that. 2) if no tiles are suitable then the actor is allowed to move again & stops taking water related damage / drowning.
