Pro-life? Patriotic? How is anyone in our country considered expendable? If you voted for this con man because you thought he supported some value, he does not. He only cares about himself. Trump suggests allowing Iran to "take out" LA and San Diego share.google/MKfldoiX3SnG...

Trump suggests allowing Iran to "take out" LA and San Diego during campaign rally
Gov. Gavin Newsom called President Trump "deranged and dangerous" after he suggested letting Iran "take out" Los Angeles and San Diego.

I listen a current top pop SiriusXM station in the car, & it's been playing there (along w/ a few other country songs). I went through a country music phase in undergrad; I've been done w/ that for a long time. I've been listen to this channel for 15 years for pop, so I wrote them to complain.

You didn't go to the X-Men. You made the X-Men come to you. Definitely fishy.

I saw it in regular IMAX, but it was still really good. I appreciate how Nolan took a lot of inspiration from Emily Wilson's translation, which is quite different from the version I had to read on high school (she went back to the source material). I also liked how he focused on the inner turmoils.

He needs to know that, before the measles vaccine, there were about 2.6 million deaths worldwide each year, 400-500 of those in the US.

If you need your liver removed, just head over to the nearest Safeway!
Text on a Safeway window reads We Deliver! But the division of the window frame makes it look like We De-liver.

We have a petulant child with a box of crayons, scribbling all over the maps again. Can the grown-ups please put this child in its playpen?

That's... a lot. 😅 But I would love to benefit from that type of prep for a low-prep ttrpg. Would be great for one shots and special gathering (e.g. meeting up for a single weekend) games.

We live on Squak Mountain now. The cats keep the inside clean, and we're fortunate enough that the hawks, owls, snakes, raccoons, and coyotes seem to be keeping the exterior population under control. In any case, good luck on your rat-wrangling quest.

Lori Hyrup @lorihyrup.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
Lol. My cats are indoor only; that's how we even learned we had rats. Each cat killed one in the house (which eventually led to the pest control); rats were going into our pantry (things can squeeze this the tiniest holes). We didn't find any in the house after that, but the garage was a battle.

Ugh, that's rough. Got cats for the house? 😅

They had to make repeated visits (once a month; we had a subscription, lol) to eventually get it under control.

Lori Hyrup @lorihyrup.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
One of the problems with rats is that if you see one, there are several others nearby. We had a horrible problem with them in our garage in California because they kept eating through wiring (and a fuel line!) in our vehicles. We ended up finding an eco friendly/humane pest control service.

Getting far enough to learn that can itself take a great deal of work (which means time and money). The craft is making the best, most coherent experience possible within the vision that began as an idea. Also, making games is hard.
010
Lori Hyrup @lorihyrup.bsky.social · 14/08/2026
There's also no magic formula for knowing which ideas will work. Something can sound brilliant in a meeting or in a design doc and ultimately prove unfun, confusing, or incompatible with the rest of the game once it is actually playable.
100
Lori Hyrup @lorihyrup.bsky.social · 14/08/2026
And not every decision belongs to the people making the game day-to-day. Ideas can be redirected, deprioritized, or vetoed for budget, schedule, technical, business, licensing, or leadership reasons.
110
Lori Hyrup @lorihyrup.bsky.social · 14/08/2026
Then the player feedback: “You should have just done X.” Sometimes X is a good idea, but it’s an oversimplification. The word “just” hides all the design, writing, art, animation, engineering, UI, audio, QA, localization, production, etc. It also means deciding what to cut to make room for it.

Lori Hyrup @lorihyrup.bsky.social · 14/08/2026
Games begin with ideas, but they are made through decisions. Ideas start the conversation, but realizing one can take hundreds or thousands of hours, and a game team is full of people with other good ideas.

It's because Threads is used as an aggregate of Threads itself, Facebook, and Instagram. Things you post on Facebook or Instagram get routed to Threads. So, even if you've only used Instagram, you are also using Threads.

The Last Herald-Mage (Mercedes Lackey) I first read this in the late 80s, when I was a freshman in high school. It dialed up my love of fantasy and sparked my love of worldbuilding. It also featured an LGBTQ protagonist and supporting cast... in the 80s. I still have my well-used copy.

Yeah, I already had a whole bunch of the metal ones, but when they did the Kickstarter for Bones (polymer plastic versions, generally duplicates of the metal ones in a more affordable material), of course I had to back them. 😅

I'd finally received my batch of Reaper Bones Kickstarter set; the gaming campaign ended soon after. I haven't played or painted since. 😥 The bins of unpainted figures in the picture (which I happened to have out because I was organizing a storage space) are just a few of them; I have so many more.

When I was still playing in our last campaign (which ran every Saturday for five years and finally ended because of group drama 😞), every time a new character (PC, NPC, or Monster), I would scramble to paint them.

Any Dark Age of Camelot fans around? I was going through some of my old bins and found some of my really old design notes, including my research and planning for the original world, design work for Shrouded Isles, Catacombs (working name Caverns and Castles), and more.

I have exactly one game that I've held onto that doesn't require internet. Dungeon Keeper 2 (1999). I pulled it out and played it a few years ago. It played great and was still fun.

During COVID, we pulled out the Wii we got in 2006 so our daughter (4 at the time) could play it. That console experienced a whole new life.

When I was designing the world for Dark Age of Camelot, which contained Arthurian, Norse, and Celtic lore, I used dozens of reference books that have me a lot of creative leeway for interpretation and extrapolation. Just making those three cultures work together in one world was creative feat.

I have conflicting thoughts. She has a lot of valid points, but I think her bias is misaligning what she's judging. Nolan clearly didn't set out to make a faithful recreation of the poem. He created a cinematic spectacle that audiences would want to see, with a Nolan spin on it.

No kidding. The theater I went to was packed, and they had it going on several screens (including 3 special screens). This was the first time in years that I'd seen the line for the snack bar wrap around the lobby.

Intelligent people know this. Sadly, the only intelligent people related to this administration are the extremely rich and powerful behind the scenes manipulating the orange puppet and his cronies, the same ones who believe empathy is weakness.

Cat litter companies/pet stores ageist? It cost less per pound to buy the larger boxes of litter, but who's more likely to have a bunch of cats? Little old ladies with a limited income, but those more cost-efficient boxes are too heavy. So, they have to pay more per pound for something lighter.

Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey sent me down a path toward a love of her larger body of work, & science fiction & fantasy, in general. Her work heavily influenced my love of writing and worldbuilding, which became a large chunk of my game dev career.

Aww. Don't be so hard on yourself. Ace folks can still recognize beautiful people and/or be star struck without being attracted to them. If this person was someone famous and someone you respected/admired, and they asked to take a picture with you, I bet you it wouldn't be bland.
