"the underlying commercial assumptions seem rather heroic" 😆😥 It seems the the big tech 7 are selling (and will sell) a s**tload of corporate bonds... if their rating is not as crap as Oracle... those could end up pretty much everywhere, won't they? 🤔

Also just the sum of the figures quoted by T. would be more than 5% of Russia production of diesel in 2025... and currently there's a ban on export and imports are at record high...

Maybe she is emotionally attached to "I am the leader who gets her message out through the press and who will not allow journalists to interfere with it" so, since she's convinced that "£10B" and "like the iron Dome" make it plausible enough, she gets annoyed with the unexpected behaviour of journos

An environment where things like this can happen is no place to grow
artificial minds that could be smarter than we are and that might not do what we want them to. Paul Christiano, on joining OpenAI's board a few weeks ago, wrote that "there is a meaningful risk that rapid acceleration in AI capabilities leads to catastrophic and irreversible loss of control in the very near term." If this is the situation, then the time for trial and error is over.
Achieving something much closer to perfection the first time is essential because iteration after a mistake may not be possible. People will not be safe if we depend on individual heroics after the fact.

What I'm about to tell you has, I realize, become something of a cliché: I resigned this week from OpenAI. I led the writing of the safety reports we published with each major launch. Now I'm joining a parade of former colleagues-at OpenAI and the industry's other leaders-who have decided that the current path is unacceptable.

It was fundamentally daft to try to use hydrogen for residential heating: even making it using electricity from renewable sources for electrolysis, the carbon budget vs using the electricity for heat pumps is intrinsically worse. A much, much better use is fertilisers or steel production.

Thanks! I'll check the first two out as they are unknown to me. I'm really fond of Jeroen Tel 😊 Ever come across LMan (Markus Klein)? I find what he managed to get out of the SID really impressive. And I can't leave out LFT (Linus Åkesson), particularly for his craftmanship!

They are live and neutral mains wires, just with US colours which are adopted in China for what's manufactured for the west (in Europe they would be brown and blue). In that charger it doesn't matter if you swap them. I suspect they were shorting when it was closed.

Is it entirely a straight horror? I felt that, from the beginning of the parents meeting, it becomes a farce and the transition is rather awkward. The sudden farcical tone makes me detach emotionally and so I notice that the very last scene is inconsistent with the events of the previous night.

Starmer chose her to replace Cooper and, if I remember correctly, the reform to to ILR were drafted with Mahmood Home secretary. Is there any other reform, e.g. to policing, attached to her? It doesn't seems so. Why did Burnham confirm her when her variant of racism was clear?

I'm not sure who's trying to actually stop the use of such metaphors but I would say that, AFAIU, there should be an awareness of how human cognition very easily ends up applying a familiar representation even where what is actually going on is unknown or fundamentally dissimilar.

Isn't that predicated on AI services becoming a commercially viable product? Until now they have been supplied at negative margins and capex is still ramping up. Wouldn't it be sensible to condition the prediction on "if social scientist will be able to pay more than it costs"?

Being in the sci-fi genre doesn't exclude other characteristics of the narrative. In a bookshop, having to choose a specific shelf, there's the need to make a choice but that's not necessarily what leads a reader towards a book. Maybe the phrase "I don't like sci-fi" should be understood as "I tend
