So saddened to hear of the death of Jamie Lindsay, with whom I worked closely when Scottish Secretary. He was the kindest and most courteous of men, with a profound sense of public duty. Loved by many, he'll be much missed and my heartfelt thoughts are with Diana and her family.

Jeffrey Archer was larger than life and not unlike one of his fictional characters. A good & generous friend and a great patriot who showed incredible resilience in taking responsibility for his own errors. He will be sadly missed and my thoughts are with Mary, William and James.

There has been talk about rewiring our constitutional arrangements, an ambition I applaud. But any electrician will tell you, if you get your wires crossed, you may be in for a nasty shock. The Lords is a kind of constitutional trip-switch, forcing a reset on bad laws. 🧵 4/5
