I love that someone loves their fursona enough to tell the world
A bridge with a number of vertical pillars at (my) head height. On subsequent pillars, someone has written "I love my fursona".

On the next set of pillars along, someone has written "I love your maw", which doesn't make a lot of sense, but that's Glasgow for you.

A la @scalzi.com, here's my view from a hotel window (in Oban). No carpark, but I do have this lovely sunset view out to Kerrera and Mull.

I have had this print of Jim Burns' brilliant Spaceport Glasgow on my wall for over 15 years at this point, and I've only just recently noticed that one of the ships in the background is a Hugo rocket! #HugoAwards #JimBurns #art
A photo of the Jim Burns piece "Spaceport Glasgow", commissioned for the Glasgow 2005 Worldcon. It shows a futuristic spaceport on the banks of the river Clyde, with lots of spaceships taking off or landing, and the Armadillo (I _guess_ you could call it the Clyde Auditorium, if you wanted to make it clear that you're not from, and don't understand, Glasgow) in the foreground, also on rockets, just coming in to land (or maybe taking off, I'm not really sure). In the background of the painting, one of the spaceships on a landing pad is actually a Hugo Award, which is a classic narrow rocket with four fins at the base.

Satellite 9 was a lot of fun. I went for dinner with 2/3 of @octothorpecast.bsky.social on the Friday night, as well as my pal Sacha, and acquired some art by Domin-IKA and a bunch of books, including the new collection by @bethkesh.bsky.social which I'm really looking forward to. #Satellite9

There is a lovely piece of art by Domin-IKA, featuring a moon with an eyeball staring at a rabbit; the latest Shoreline of Infinity magazine; the Eye Collector; my badge and attached ribbons; an Arthur C. I miss when software came in big boxes, with manuals you could use to cause grievous bodily harm.
An old software box labelled "Hummingbird BI", with a weird red pattern at the top, and then a hummingbird seemingly coming out of a wormhole (or possibly the time vortex). There's a label in the bottom right that says "Upgrade copy".

So, this came from the @glasgowcc.bsky.social chatbot, so treat it appropriately (couldn't find a contact email), but this is very useful. I've been putting my plastics to one side and taking them to the supermarket every week, so it's great to discover I can put them in the grey bin
A screenshot of a chatbox with me asking:

Can plastics marked "recycle with bags at large supermarkets" be recycled in the grey bin?

And the Glasgow City Council Chatbot replies:

Yes, you can recycle soft plastics and film, including those marked "recycle with bags at large supermarkets," in your grey bin in Glasgow—even if the packaging says not to. Please make sure these items are clean, dry, and placed loose in the grey bin (not in plastic bags).

There is no need to remove labels, but please do not include glass, polystyrene, electricals, batteries, vapes, oil or paint cans, metal pots or pans, nappies, or non-recyclable waste in your grey bin.

I think my fancy earl grey habit may be getting somewhat out of control...
Eight different varieties of earl grey tea, seven of which are loose leaf, and one (in a fancy tin) is teabags. There is one from Shi-bui, one from Your Ecellen-tea, one from Whittard and a homemade blend containing lavender from the local Hidden Lane Tearoom. There are also three from Eteaket: Royal EG, Edinburgh EG and Earl of Winter, containing lavender and vanilla, which you wouldn't think would work but is really nice. Because I wasn't sure about that one, I just bought a wee tin of it to start with. Now that I've decided I really like it, and since it sounds like a seasonal thing, I went and bought a huge big bag of it. The tin is from Cartwright and Butler. I've not tried the Eteaket Edinburgh EG or the Whittards yet, but the others are all good.

Had our first in-person #rpg session since the Before Times this afternoon. It was mostly an excuse to eat a prodigious amount of crisps, although we did talk to an old man too (and we didn't even kill him!). #NightsBlackAgents

The Citizens Theatre has finally reopened after years of redevelopment and I went to see the opening production, Small Acts of Love, with @beckymullen.bsky.social the other day. It's a musical about the Lockerbie disaster and is incredible.

I've walked past this van a few times and I really love that logo, and very clever use of negative space.
The back of a white van, parked on a street, with the company name "Baxter & Gillespie" and giant logo that covers most of the double doors of the van. The logo is composed of the 'g' of Gillespie represented within the negative space of the 'B' of Baxter. And I think that's neat.

The 1960s were a crazy time. Who thought it was a good idea who build a building whose two halves had different numbers of floors. And how long did they spend giggling on the floor before taking another hit of the bong? #UniversityOfGlasgow #AdamSmithBuilding #OkayOldAdamSmithBuilding
The (Old) Adam Smith Building at the University of Glasgow, which is a 1960s concrete building in two distinct halves. The right hand half has 6 visible floors, and the left hand half has 4. Both halves are the same height and were (I think) built at the same time.

I walked home along the river today and found this little diorama nestled into the wall by the old mill. #glasgow
Diorama featuring six little figures standing around two gravestones. One is carrying a flag with a slice of watermelon on it, another has a picture of a key stuck to her torso, and a third has a big red triangle stuck to the front of his body. I don't know what any of it means.

Had the day off work today, so I took the opportunity to head down the road to New Lanark. It's a really interesting site, and the nearby Cora Linn waterfall at the Falls of Clyde is stunning.

Had tea with @grace-knight.co.uk today. She decided to take me to a quiet spot on the banks of the Kelvin and make tea with the judicial application of fire! There were false starts, but fire and then tea, and then marshmallows all happened. It was a new experience for me, but a good one.
Grace and I sitting, on the groundn in a wooded area. It's by the banks of the river Kelvin, although you can't tell that from the photo. I'm dressed for a visit to a tea shop, rather than a campsite, while Grace is dressed more appropriately. I'm smiling while holding a mug of tea. Grace is laughing wildly while holding a marshmallow on a stick that is on fire.

Had dinner and a fancy (non alcoholic) drink at Afrikana before going to the theatre this evening. The mocktail was delicious (and very fancy), and the food and company were great too. Very much enjoyed 101 Dalmatians as well, even if technical difficulties meant it started about 50 minutes late.

I've been unsure who to vote for in this election and I was looking up my MP's voting record. While it's mostly in line with my beliefs, the below is why I won't be voting for her. She's chosen to make my friends' lives harder and less equal. I can't in good conscience vote for that. #UKElection2024
How Carol Monaghan voted on Social Issues
* Has never voted on equal gay rights
* Has never voted on allowing marriage between two people of the same sex
* Generally voted for lows to promote equality and human rights
* Voted against allowing terminally ill people to be given assistance to end their life

Went up to see the new sculpture at Stockingfield Junction on the Forth and Clyde canal this afternoon, which is rather lovely. It's a Beithir (snake/dragon), which is kin to the Kelpies at Falkirk (there's an egg in its mouth, but the light wasn't right to take a picture of it)

Had the day off today and since I've never seen the Kelpies, I took myself to Falkirk to rectify this. I've seen pictures, of course, but they are quite magnificent in person. Well worth the visit, if you've not already done so (something for visitors coming for #Worldcon to think about).

I love this statue on top of the end of Charing Cross mansions (above the block that has Non Viet on it). Given the trident and Union flag shield, I assume that is Britannia. Not something you can easily see on the ground. (Taken from the top floor of Tay House while I was visiting a colleague)

A quarter of a century plus in Glasgow, and I finally had my first pizza crunch this afternoon (even if it was a slightly posh one, in noted vegan hipster bar Mono). It was greasy with not much on the way of flavour to it. I don't think I'd recommend.

Saint Enoch, and Saint Mungo (also by Smug, I think), are probably my favourite Glasgow murals. I saw Mungo when I did the mural trail a few years ago, but I don't think Enoch had been done yet.
