The case for pedestrian helmets is basically just as strong as the case for commuter bike helmets. That doesn't mean it's without merit in either case but the fact that so many people see bike helmets as obvious and essential and pedestrian helmets as absurd shows how irrational the whole debate is.

I don't believe the coin-flip poll, because people show way less loss aversion on game shows like "Millionaire" etc. Guessing some people whiffed the math and thought it was 500k vs a million or that 50k was half a million. Lots of people are not good at numbers and they're not trying hard on a poll
