On 9/11, I had just started working at the American Embassy school in Damascus, Syria. I will never forget the kindness and compassion shown to me by the people of Syria. 🇸🇾 I still have the condolence cards given to me by students and their parents.

My mother was one of the strongest and most positive people I have ever known. She fled the Russians as a young girl from East Prussia. Despite the horrors she witnessed, she always believed in the good of people. I miss her. Happy Mother’s Day in heaven.❤️❤️

In 2001, I worked at the American Embassy School in Damascus. We held evacuation drills in case of an emergency. When the Iraq war was about to begin, the security officer from the embassy came to our school and told all employees to leave asap. In 2026, there was no plan. Americans are stranded.
