Not that we haven’t shared it before , but I think it’s apt to share the wide of the stills that Jamie shared. And a behind the scenes photo I took.

I’ve been meaning to share this here, but better late than never, right? I got to do a CanvasRebel interview recently. Catch me talking costuming and conceptuals for Bystanders and @loveandhorrorprod.bsky.social shorts, writing, body image, and more. canvasrebel.com/meet-emily-f...

I’d say I failed miserably at this because I only got to 39, but since most of my time was divided between work and the short, I’m not all that bothered. I still discovered a lot of good movies this year.

Can we appreciate the attention to detail that @jamiealvey.bsky.social has?

After so much proofreading of screenplays over the years, I finally tackled it with “Wedding Cookies” during preproduction for “Your Husband Was a Good Man” last year. This is fleshed out from a character idea I had years ago. #firstpagefriday

One of my favorite bits of trivia is that the scene I used for reference in the concept poster was filmed three years to the day that I created said poster. While it didn’t make it to the official poster, it’s a fun little anniversary to celebrate.

Here’s the video OP’s virtue signaling Letterboxd review that he left a week before he uploaded his video. And yeah, I’m defensive of this movie because I am personally tied to it in several ways, but I also understand the importance of allowing people to tell these stories their own way.

Emily @lookingforferns.bsky.social · 25/07/2025
I’ve been avoiding this so as not to give this any airtime and won’t link the video, but days later, some man echoed OP’s discrediting me that I am “too emotional” and upset that people don’t like Bystanders—despite my outright saying otherwise and actual critics liking it. *Sorry for no alt text.*

I have a little story time for anyone who has decided to check out this ongoing comprehensive list of movies I’ve seen where at least one character is mute. I may not necessarily like all of these movies, but I wanted to create a resource for myself and for others who may be interested in seeing the varying portrayals of mutism on screen.

When I was five, my family moved from Washington to Kentucky. This triggered me having selective mutism throughout preschool and kindergarten. I regularly saw a psychiatrist and began speech therapy. I finally started talking to more people—outside of my immediate family and a few cousins—when I started first grade. While I was more sociable, I still had extreme social anxiety and developed a stutter. This remains true to this day. (This is a large factor in my fumbling in podcast appearances, should you ever listen to me join my friends to talk film and television.)

So what are the criteria?
1. They are born without the ability to speak.
2. They are deaf/HoH and speak sparingly or not at all.began speech therapy. I finally started talking to more people—outside of my immediate family and a few cousins—when I started first grade. 1. They are born without the ability to speak.
2. They are deaf/HoH and speak sparingly or not at all.
3. Anxiety and/or trauma trigger the onset of mutism.
4. An external force, such as magic and/or reanimation, has not caused them to be mute. (There will be no The Little Mermaid adaptations on here.)
5. Historically racist and/or classist roles, such as servants and slaves, are exempt unless they are specifically identified as a mute individual.
6. They must be a supporting or lead role, not a background character. (There might be some exceptions to this.)
7. Shyness is not mutism.

Recommendations are welcome.
