Oh this makes so much sense. I never liked the Living Tombstone. Not that I've actually listened to anything by them in like, 10 years. I mostly just remember their remix of Discord being ass.

I read a good chunk of it when I was like 14. It's not good. You would not learn anything. Except I guess you'd learn of some aspects of Yud's childhood which he used for his self-insert Harry Potter.

I cut my hair like, once a year maybe. Mostly I'm too lazy to get it done but I do enjoy the length.

Isn't she also a "scientific racism" sort of person? I don't want to go search X to confirm, but I recall her often posting "evidence" of the claims of that book, The Bell Curve.

You might have increased anxiety if your E levels are too high. So if your levels are much higher with injections than with patches, that could be why.

Doesn't Ukraine quite literally use Ardupilot?

lonjil @lonjil.net · 15/09/2026
No, he literally wants you to primary them. How is that not a consequence?

AMD and Intel both have 2nm products planned for later this year or early 2027, so they'll only be a few months behind Apple when it comes to chip fabrication node. Whatever speed and efficiency difference remains will be entirely due to design differences.
0130
lonjil @lonjil.net · 13/09/2026
That's not true. They don't have a special deal, they've just traditionally been willing to pay more upfront. It's also not the case that they're that fast by being on newer fabrication processes. It helps, but the Apple chips are still faster when comparing on the same fab process.

Urgh, that sucks. Happened to me last year, it's particularly unfun.

Do you believe organizations are morally disconnected from those who run them? And, of course, a nonprofit is *also* not a piece of software or a Linux distro or anything else.
120
lonjil @lonjil.net · 03/09/2026
That is to say, because they are evil.
110
lonjil @lonjil.net · 03/09/2026
You can't give money to a piece of software. You can give money to a person, which is what they did. And why did they give money to DHH? Is it because Omarchy is such an interesting and groundbreaking distribution, it should be developed further? They did it because they agree with DHH politically.

"associated with"? You mean, the owners of companies selling services? Like obviously I don't want to give money to a company that then donates tons of money to evil causes.

I've heard that AArch64 would've had half as many registers if Apple hadn't insisted on more to make x86(_64) emulation easier.

With Noah Smith, yeah he's definitely gotten worse, but I don't get people who say he used to be smart or reliable. He was always some sort of idiot, but somehow his brain has completely melted and he's gotten much worse.

I dunno. I used to use Windows and Mac both on a daily basis and now I only use Linux, and Windows and Mac seem roughly equivalent in most regards. I'm probably missing something, so which aspect of Mac do you think is like that, which Windows avoids?

Wooow that's a good price. I live next to a huge Asian grocery store. A bit too big to really get to know anyone there, and the prices aren't really any lower, but they sell the good stuff, so I'm their loyal customer.

Since Stannis was a member of a weird foreign religion, all of his claims were probably void anyway. And all oaths sworn by his vassals were probably void. It's a wonder anyone took his side at all.

Incorrect. It's absolutely perfect. Though I've noticed the way that LLMs tend to use it is rather different from how I learned to use it.

lonjil @lonjil.net · 21/08/2026
Tbh, lots of programmers, even a big portion of those who use LLMs for programming, are completely revolted by LLM writing. There's a deep wrongness to it. I don't want to read LLM writing, and I don't want to do LLM writing.

I never watched it, but I heard of the ending to Disney's Star vs the Forces of Evil. They decide to destroy all magic. This means all magical beings die. Several such beings encourage her to do it because it's the right thing to do. Very cool and normal.

I finally learnedish to spell that word a while back by brute force memorizing a nonsense pronunciation which maps to the right letters using my brain's phonetic spelling rules.

The only way a website can make money off me seeing ads, is if the ads are so incredibly obnoxious that I can't use the website at all without buying a subscription to get rid of the ads. But I don't think that's what anyone wants.
030
lonjil @lonjil.net · 11/08/2026
Also, one thing doesn't really make any sense. If I turned off my ad blocker, the companies buy ad space would see zero extra revenue. Hence lower conversion rates and they'd want to pay less per ad view.

lonjil @lonjil.net · 11/08/2026
If websites want to make money off of me, they'll have to do it in a way that doesn't involve 1000s of companies tracking me across the web. Maybe there should be a charge of 0.1 cents per page view or something.
120
lonjil @lonjil.net · 11/08/2026
Maybe we should just not have free websites instead. 0.001 USD per page view.

This is mostly true; Noelle is the token cisfem. Her big sis Dess is transfem, as is Asriel (still egg tho). The fun gang are all transfem. Pizzapants and Ice Cream Guy is actually doomed yuri, not doomed yaoi. Rudy and Asgore are both reppers who've never told anyone except each other.

Learning English as a second language, they taught us this in school. They also wanted us to choose words based on the person we're speaking to, i.e. British words like lift when speaking to a Brit, but elevator when speaking to an American.

The rollout was pretty bad, being used on the web for like a decade before applications started to support it. Hopefully it goes better for JXL. Most applications already support it before widespread web adoption, we just need Microsoft to get on the program.

Tbf webp sucks in a lot of ways. In the lossy mode, 7.5 bit color, forced chroma subsampling, doesn't reliably beat JPEG. The lossless mode (by Jyrki of later Brotli, WOFF, and JXL fame) is actually good, but it's artificially limited to 8 bits to keep it in line with the lossy mode.
