Ninja Gaiden III (NSO) Finished up my 3 hours for the week. Very positive takeaway. Enjoyed memorizing the levels and getting better bit by bit. Got to the level 3 boss a couple times but never got past it. Took me back to gaming in the 80s.

N64 Collection #31 of 43 My first “cozy” game, although they weren’t called that back then. I got really addicted to this, just one more day! I wondered how a game about farm life would be interesting. But man it was. I have bought many, many Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons games since.

N64 Collection #30 of 43 Despite the stigma that surrounds this game today, I remember there being a lot of hype prior to release and the game delivering on the hype. Most reviews were really positive. I loved it. I played it twice, back to back, grabbing all the bananas each time!

@lucasmthomas.bsky.social I really enjoyed Mary’s review of Rhythm Heaven Groove in the latest issue of Nintendo Force magazine. It’s refreshing to read the thoughts of someone with no history or expectations going in, who was able to appreciate the game for what it is. Fun read! 👍

N64 Collection #29 of 43 Coming off the SNES version, what stood out to me the most upon playing this was the hills. It felt like real race tracks. I didn’t think it could get any better than this! Saving ghost data for each track to improve your times was a nice aspect too.

N64 Collection #28 of 43 I don’t think I bought this at release, but instead after it was discounted. During this time I was a 3D gaming snob so it was tough to go back to 2D. I always wished it was a 3D game. Today I can appreciate it a lot more.

Pretty happy with what we got today, especially considering their big game (Zelda) didn’t take up one second of the Direct. Metroid and Kirby are nice surprises. I always appreciate when Nintendo gives me a reason to revisit games I already own, and they did that plenty.

N64 Collection #27 of 43 I was a big Rare fan during the N64 days. To me they were on par with Nintendo. I bought most of their games at release, including this one. I loved everything about it when I played. However, trying to play today with those N64 controls just doesn’t cut it for me, lol.

N64 Collection #26 of 43 I had a love/hate relationship with this game. When I was making progress it was really fun. But when I was stuck with no idea what to do, just running in circles, it could be frustrating. I found the music track from the Playrooms area is disturbing.

N64 Collection #25 of 43 This was the first Pokemon game of any type I ever played. When Pokemon first released I was well past the target audience age so skipped it all. Snap was a neat game though. Short game but lots of replay value due to hidden content. Fun to discover secrets.

N64 Collection #24 of 43 My daughter asked for this for her Bday once. It’s a Mario Party clone. I tried to talk her into Mario Party but she was having none of it, lol. By the time she grew up the N64 was long forgotten so the game stayed with me.

N64 Collection #23 of 43 You don’t hear much about this game today but I remember it being a popular topic when it came out. This was the N64’s premiere racing sim with high quality graphics…for N64 anyway. I had a lot of fun with it.

Fired up my old SNES with RetroTINK today. Just sampled a bunch of stuff and marveled at how great these games can look on a 4K OLED. I wonder how many consoles being released today are still going to work 35 years later? 😂

N64 Collection #22 of 43 I picked this up near release after reading all the fantastic reviews online. I liked it just as much as those reviewers. Long and varied tracks, shortcuts galore and just plain fun racing. And that dinosaur! Two thumbs up!

N64 Collection #21 of 43 Similar to the NFL and Madden 99, this is the last MLB game I bought near launch. I guess my tastes were changing when it came to what I wanted out of a game. Very similar to ‘99, I think I encountered the same season stats glitch issue with this 2000 version.

N64 Collection #20 of 43 I took vacation the week this game released. I can still remember waking up in the mornings excited to play it. The controller didn’t come out with it but it should have, lol. I was also anxious about making sure I got the gold cartridge although it was plentiful.

N64 Collection #19 of 43 Picked this up out of a bargain bin. Really cool puzzle platformer where you take the forms of different animals and use their unique abilities to figure out how to advance. Don’t remember if I beat it. This developer would later go on to create GTA.

N64 Collection #18 of 43 After loving Turok I was really hyped for this one and bought it day one. It did not disappoint. The developers went over the top in making this gory. Remember the Cerebral Bore? It was a weapon that drilled into the skull then exploded once reaching the brain. 😂

N64 Collection #17 of 48 This would be the last Madden I ever bought that was near launch and not out of a bargain bin. While I still loved football, the series was getting too complicated for my tastes. To this day I find it annoying EA has the exclusive NFL license. Some variety would be nice.

N64 Collection #16 of 43 As I think back, I did enjoy this although not as much as the SNES version. Having 30 racers on the track was amazing. Loops were very cool. Full spin attacks sounded awesome but I could never get comfortable with them. They always messed me up more than my opponents.

N64 Collection #15 of 43 This would be near the top of my list of N64 favorites. Some days it may be at the top. The gameplay, personality, music…just wow! To this day my favorite genre is the 3D platformer, largely because of this game and Mario 64.

For the first time in a LONG time I actually found 5 other people playing Drag x Drive for a 3 vs 3 game. So much fun! All those hours of practice when the game released paid off. I can hold my own out there!

N64 Collection #14 of 43 My first MLB game for N64. I thought it looked great at the time and played a good game of baseball. I do remember my season stats would sometimes glitch though, which to me was devastating. I loved building onto the season stats. And the space it took on a memory card…😖

N64 Collection #13 of 43 I struggled with whether to buy this at release. It was a new Nintendo game so I wanted it. But the reviews weren’t kind. In the end I did buy it and am thankful. I focused on eating only watermelons which is where the challenge can be found. Not perfect, but still fun.

N64 Collection #12 of 43 Online reviews influenced me to buy this. I really have no interest in this type of racing but the game was really good. I believe the tracks were modeled from actual tracks. I remember me and some guy online kept posting our times to better each other. Good times!

N64 Collection #11 of 43 One of those N64 games that brings back a lot of nostalgia for me. The silver coin challenges and races against bosses like Wizpig felt unique. And there was an overworld to explore? Loved it. Who else has fond memories of this one?

N64 Collection #10 of 43 I wanted an NFL game for N64 and chose this over Madden. I remember being impressed with how great it looked. But I was disappointed with the defense. All of my game scores would be something like 58-48. I wanted something more realistic with the stats. Maybe I just sucked.

N64 Collection #9 of 43 This game must have gotten nice reviews in magazines, or maybe I picked it up later after I got online and read reviews. It’s 2D and uses the D-pad which felt like a step backward at the time. Not sure how far I got in it. Shake! Shake!

N64 Collection #8 of 43 I have the most nostalgia for N64 and this game is one of the reasons why. I played this a ton. Loved starting in the back and slowly picking off the cars ahead of me. There was a paint editor and I had my car painted orange with black tiger stripes. I’ll never forget it!

N64 Collection #7 of 43 I’m surprised I bought this. I’m not really into Bond. I didn’t play multiplayer much. But the magazines made it sound awesome so I jumped in. This game was really incredible, and I mostly only played the single player portion, not even what the game is most known for.

N64 Collection #6 of 43 A lot of us have revisited this classic recently! I distinctly remember being so impressed that the game had spoken dialogue. It was my first game that had it. The rumble pak actually added to the experience. And Nintendo’s VHS video they sent out was icing on the cake.

N64 Collection #5 of 43 I picked this up out of a bargain bin. I’m not sure how much I knew about it going in. The game wasn’t too pretty to look at but gameplay ruled. The later missions demanded near perfection. I remember the frustration of trying to slide that dump truck just right!

N64 Collection #4 of 43 Picked this up on launch day, $74.99. I loved it. Playing it today it’s hard to control but back then I had no muscle memory for games like this. Fighting dinosaurs in a 3D world was amazing and I thought the overlay map was brilliant. Death animations were awesome too.

N64 Collection #3 of 43 The second game I got for N64, it just felt so bland compared to my other game, Mario 64. That didn’t stop me from playing it a bunch. The bugs splattering on your windshield when viewing the race from inside your car was a nice touch.

N64 Collection #2 of 43 I rented this game, and didn’t like it. Years later, after it was discounted and I continued to read great things about it, I picked it up to give it another chance. The controls clicked and I ended up loving it. I would like to see a new iteration on Switch 2!

N64 Collection #1 of 43 Brought this home with my N64 the weekend it launched. I was absolutely blown away. There has never been a game that surprised, shocked, and delighted me like this one. 3D gameplay was literally a game changer. I’ll never experience a first like that again in gaming.

Bonus! SNES Collection #48 of 48. So apparently I can’t count or I screwed up the numbers somewhere because I do have one more SNES game. Gotta represent the classics! I remember buying this for my daughter as a stocking stuffer when she was young. (N64 collection coming soon)

SNES Collection #47 of 47 This game actually released after the N64 had come out. The N64 really affected my enjoyment of this. Anytime I played, in the back of my mind I knew I really wanted to be playing N64 instead. I still played through it though. Thanks for sticking around for all of these!

SNES Collection #46 of 47 This would be the last video game I would receive from my dad for Christmas. He’s fine, but I had just finally reached the age where gifts like this from my parents felt unnecessary. This was the first Madden to include a salary cap…and the Baltimore Ravens.

I was always interested in this on Super Nintendo but never got to play it until it landed on NSO. It’s a tough game to get into today but if you can get over the initial hump there’s a lot of charm. Anybody have experience with this racer?

I haven’t seen this mentioned, but if you go into the Virtual Boy app settings and change the color from red to GB color (added yesterday), and you don’t mind playing on a tiny screen, you can play probably these games without the headset.

SNES Collection #45 of 47 My girlfriend back then must have bought this because I can’t imagine me buying a puzzle game like this. I like puzzle games but not enough to outright buy a retail boxed copy. I don’t remember playing this much. I’m sure I wasn’t too good at it.

SNES Collection #44 of 47 While I was experienced with turn based RPGs by the time this released, it still felt odd to play a Mario game in which he controlled so stiff! I enjoyed it regardless. Anyone else jump in during the SNES days, or maybe later?

Better known as Donkey Kong ‘94…I’m glad Nintendo figured out a way to make most of their classics easily available today. I would have missed out on so many Game Boy games without NSO. What’s your experience with Donkey Kong ‘94?

SNES Collection #43 of 47 I remember this being a lot of fun although 30 years later I’ve forgotten the specifics. I really wish Nintendo could get this on NSO. I think Griffey was the only real player in the game.

SNES Collection #42 of 47 My favorite of the trilogy. I liked the pirate theme and the music is awesome. Also, the last time I lent a game to someone and gave them the box. Got it back with a chewed up corner from a dog. Live and learn, lol.

SNES Collection #41 of 47 Some day this game is going to net somebody a nice chunk of change. That someone will never be me! But what a game! Playing in different time periods was always so appealing to me. I imagine several people have personal stories with this one.

Super Mario All-Stars…back when upon starting the remake you could immediately see the difference instead of having to look at side by side screen shots to confirm it was better. Also, Mario on a light blue background just always works aesthetically!

SNES Collection #40 of 47 This is definitely not my type of game. My girlfriend at the time bought it for me as a surprise because it was discounted. I don’t think I played too much of it. But if anything…that red cartridge! Imagine if all the SNES carts were different colors!
