This clip really fed Bluesky today and I love that for us.
Screenshot of the post from @ coreyatad.com that I reposted at the top of this thread (the one that mocks Pierre Poilievre for stating that 'We will reinstill a warrior culture, not a woke culture' while wearing the most ridiculous all-white cowboy costume). I have circled the number of reposts (307) and quote posts (950) to show that Bluesky is having a field day dunking on this clip.

As we enter new frontiers of AI slop, check out the ad YouTube showed me today. Because it's very normal to model only swimsuit tops. Alternatively, it might be an ad for porn (?) but I am unwilling to click on it to find out.
A screenshot of a Youtube ad titled "Swim in Style Plus-Size" showing a (probably AI-generated) model standing on a beach under a palm tree, wearing a tankini top and seemingly no bottoms (?!). The image cuts off just high enough that you don't see genitalia.

This section from the William Morris poem The Message of the March Wind has been stuck in my brain ever since I first read it more than 20 years ago.
Excerpt from The Message of the March Wind by William Morris

Hark, the wind in the elm-boughs! from London it bloweth,
And telleth of gold, and of hope and unrest;
Of power that helps not; of wisdom that knoweth,
But teacheth not aught of the worst and the best.

Highlighted text: Advised by Baranov, "the Tsar" responds to this demand for authority during historical events such as the Second Chechen War, the presidential election of 2000, the sinking of the Kursk, the hostage-taking of the Moscow theater in 2002 or even the Orange Revolution in 2004. "In The Wizard of the Kremlin, we follow Putin's metamorphosis", summarizes the journalist Laure Adler.[8] For Marc Lambron, da Empoli's novel is "an oral fresco running from the Yeltsin years to the beginnings of the current war in Ukraine".[9]It was while carrying out research for his previous work, The Engineers of Chaos (French: "Les ingénieurs du chaos"), an essay devoted to the advisers of populist leaders, that da Empoli became familiar with the figure of Vladislav Surkov, to whom he wished to devote a novel. "He is so romantic that he freed me and pushed me to become a novelist", explains the author, who also confides that he has never met him in person.[5]The main character of the plot, Vadim Baranov, is fictional, but he shares many common traits with Russian politician Vladislav Surkov, whose atypical profile—rap lover, avant-garde theater director, writer and businessman—prompted The New York Times to call him one of Russia's “most intriguing figures.”[2][3] Like Baranov, Surkov was Vladimir Putin's man in the shadows, "a poet among wolves", according to Marianne.[4]

Platypus Review 166 | May 2024

Presented on April 5, 2024, at the opening plenary panel discussion on “Liberal democracy in crisis?” of the Platypus Affiliated Society’s 15th Annual International Convention, with Jordan De Anda (For the People), Howie Hawkins (U.S. Green Party), Ralph Leonard (writer at Unherd, Areo, et al.) and Matt McManus (author of The Political Theory of Liberal Socialism).[1]

I IDENTIFY STRONGLY WITH the wrongly accused. So does America more broadly. And Trump has been wrongly accused. If you are in the right, then there is no need to lie. And they have lied about Trump.

All the criminal charges and civil lawsuits against Trump — literally every single one — are using “novel legal theories” and “unprecedented applications of the law.”Highlighted text: "They’ve trapped Putin in Ukraine and are trying to bleed him dry."

It's pretty accurate! I mean, I'm a biochemist, but flags are fascinating!
Opening and Closing Ceremonies
You have a flair for vexillology!

OK, this one isn't exactly a sport. What you really love is the pomp and fanfare of the opening and closing ceremonies.

Vexillology is the study of the history, symbolism, and usage of flags. This summer, your scientific curiosity is fixed on the 208 flags representing different countries, territories, and groups competing in the Olympics. As a vexillologist, flags help you understand the world.

Fun fact: In this year's Summer Olympics, 11,040 athletes are participating in 329 events in 32 different sports. The country with the most athletes is the United States, with 594 athletes. Four countries sent just one athlete: Belize, Liechtenstein, Nauru, and Somalia.

Then there's just typical context-less boomer ranting: "Needles in the park" There is more than one park in Canada. I understand that actually doing some work to get a sense of the prevalence and extent of drug use in public spaces in Canada would be too much for BI though. Ditto for gang violence.

I'm not saying that he's wrong on all fronts. There are lots of problems in Canada, with access to healthcare and specialists being a major one. He's also kind of right about the doctor statement in Thunder Bay, but that requires context.
Screenshot of above article with the following text: In Ontario, there is the Ontario Health Insurance Plan. It's a government-subsidized program that is broken.

Before I moved to the US, after high school, I moved from Fort Frances to Thunder Bay, Ontario. That was going from 7,000 people to 115,000. In Thunder Bay, they don't even have doctors. There were a couple of doctors who retired last year.

I was in Canada last year, and I wanted to see a cardiologist. I was there for eight months. I couldn't get into one.

I'm still waiting for a letter — 2 ½ years later — from the government to say, "We have an appointment with the doctor for you."
