#PrideMonth is here. A time for celebration, but a reminder safety and freedom for LGBTQ+ people can't be taken for granted. Abusive conversion practices remain legal in the UK. Interventions that seek to ‘change’, cure’, suppress sexual orientation and/or gender identity are happening right now.

New data released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) looks for the first time at mortality analysed by sexual orientation and makes sobering reading. As we’ve long suspected lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB+) people are more likely to take their own lives or die through alcohol or drug use.

ONS analysis also shows LGB+ people more likely to die from drug overdoses and alcohol-related disease

A new report from TransActual shows that trans and cisgender people face job loss, violence, vigilantism and wholesale exclusion following the Supreme Court Ruling and EHRC guidance. Read the report at: tinyurl.com/trans-segreg... #Trans #Transgender #Nonbinary #EqualityAct #EHRC #TransRights
Text Reads: “I was denied access to female lounge because of being transgender

I felt upset, alienated and othered. I was invited by other women patients to take part in a spa evening, but I was unable to join them because the hospital directors would not allow me to be in a female space. The patients were upset and outraged on my behalf, they felt it was unjust.

I felt like a hole had opened up, that I was a freak and not right for society.”

The EHRC has launched its consultation on its Code of Practice following the Supreme Court ruling on the definition of sex. We'll be taking time to read this carefully and discuss it with colleagues in the LGBTQ+ sector. You can respond until 30th June.

It's very concerning to see the UK slip further down the @ilgaeurope.bsky.social rankings of countries by LGBTQ+ human rights when in 2015 we topped the list. The map shows clearly we are now a poorer outlier among western European neighbours.

More time to properly scrutinise and respond to the consultation on the new statutory guidance is welcome but this contains some very concerning accounts of the actions behind the scenes at the EHRC to advocate for a position many believe is an incorrect interpretation of the Supreme Court ruling.

There is a lot of information to digest from today's Supreme Court ruling on the definition of sex in the Equality Act. We'll be carefully discussing with sector colleagues to understand the true impact of the ruling. Solidarity with our trans service users, volunteers, staff and supporters today.
