One of the most liberating things about AI coding is that I no longer have to pay again for apps that developers don't support after OS updates. Qwen made a better version of this app in 10 minutes.

My latest local Qwen and Claude collab is a multi platform OMT video encoder that grabs an RTMP source as a server and makes it available to Vmix as an OMT stream.

And.... The ATSC 3.0 DRM is back here in Connecticut :(. It was fun while it lasted. We had two weeks of encryption free TV!

After 35 years somebody made Wing Commander look like the pictures on the box! This is called Wing Com Reloaded - it's very alpha but off to a great start. It works as a mod for the original game and its expansion pack. wingcomreloaded.itch.io/wingcommande...

So long Quickbooks! Thanks to local Qwen 3.8 27b (with some code review by Claude) I have built my own accounting system that does everything Quickbooks does and then some. $460 annual savings.

Lon Seidman @lon.tv · 23/09/2026

Just spun up my 96GB Mac Studio. Never had so much RAM in my life. I have Qwen 3.8-27b at full context working on my Quickbooks replacement and still have headroom to edit videos.

040

Lon Seidman @lon.tv · 22/09/2026

I've finally had it with Quickbooks. I'm working with Qwen 3.8 to build my own accounting package. So far it successfully brought in 12 years worth of history, rebuilt the full chart of accounts, and everything is in balance.

040

Lon Seidman @lon.tv · 18/09/2026

Claude helped me spin up Qwen3.8-Flash Next on my 32GB v100 with the model streaming off the SSD. Generates pretty slowly at only 7.4 t/s but very nice quality output

Lon Seidman @lon.tv · 18/09/2026

ATSC 3.0 DRM encryption is currently OFF in Connecticut! I'm sure they'll turn it back on but right now you can tune it in with an HDHomerun.

In June I kicked off a new series about Local AI on my YouTube channel. I immediately was hit with the loud, but few voices opposed to the technology who threatened to unsubscribe. This topic alone netted +1,600 new subscribers and 250k views. The data wins.

A brand’s preference for “paid collaborations” over editorial reviews without pre-approval suggests a lack of confidence in its product! Looking at you, Ray Neo

YouTube's view count change is going to make it impossible to figure out what's performing well for at least a month. This 1 of 10 is probably 7 or 8 of 10 under the old system.

Pro-Tip for Blu-Ray's with digital coupons: just because it has an expiration date doesn't mean it's expired! I just redeemed this code, which expired in 2019, on a 4k movie I picked up from Goodwill. 2026 is a great time to collect physical 4k movies as I pointed out in this video: lon.tv/0nek6

The NAB is pushing to mandate AM radio in cars under the guise of protecting emergency communications. Meanwhile, they're lobbying to put those same life-saving broadcasts behind encrypted TV paywalls. Let's be consistent: No encryption on the public airwaves. Period.

It's pretty crazy that SteamOS installs in about 5 minutes from scratch, yet PCs with Windows "pre-installed" take the at least an hour (or more) to get going on their initial boot-up.

0110

Lon Seidman @lon.tv · 05/07/2026

SteamOS in desktop mode seems to deliver decent performance for local LLM on a Ryzen AI 370 with 64GB. Qwen 35b-a3b spitting out 21 tokens/sec Gemma 4 26b-a4b about the same. Will see how much of a token window it can take next.

Lon Seidman @lon.tv · 02/07/2026

Picked up an Asus 5060ti GPU with 16GB of memory for some Local AI experiments. Surprisingly it was under $600 ! The Gemma 26b mixture of experts model fits nicely in its memory and can run at about 35-40 tokens per second with good results.
