#questpit #A #DF #Q In my world, magic isn't invisible. It lives in your hair, eyes, and color. And when the darkness takes it... it erases you.
A dark, atmospheric title slide featuring a black book cover framed with pale floral designs. The title reads “Born of Light, Cursed by Darkness” by Cassandra Habig. A glowing streak of multicolored light cuts through the title. Background is warm gold and shadowed, with text indicating “Adult Dark Academia Romantic Fantasy” and “120k words.”A dark fantasy blurb slide with teal text on a smoky gold and black background. The header reads “BLURB” followed by the tagline “Magic lives in color. When it fades… so do you.” The paragraph describes Rihalyn Embers, her hidden magic, her sister’s execution, and her arrival at a deadly academy. Decorative images include glowing flowers and a glass-encased rose, reinforcing a magical, fragile atmosphere.

Text reads:
Magic lives in color. When it fades… so do you.
Twenty-year-old Rihalyn Embers lives on Runyan, where magic reveals itself in color, and she has none. Until her sister Mahdilyn is exposed as a rare illusionist, revealing she has been masking Rihalyn’s iridescent colors and altering her memories to keep her safe from Abel, the self-crowned ruler who siphons color to secure his throne. When Mahdilyn is executed for refusing to join Abel’s army, Rihalyn is sent to Wychlith, an academy that trains mages to serve Abel, where combat trials force magic to the surface, victories raise rank, and defeat costs pieces of a mage’s soul.

At Wychlith, light awakens. Darkness waits.
Rihalyn clings to one goal: survive long enough to reclaim her suppressed power, uncover what Mahdilyn hid, and learn why she died for it. But when Kieran, Abel’s son, takes her under his mentorship, she cannot tell whether he is shielding her from Abel or shaping her into something useful for his own rise. Kieran wields dark magic, the same force draining Runyan of its color, and every lesson awakens Rihalyn’s light while binding her more tightly to him.

If Abel finds her, he’ll drain her.
If Kieran loves her, he may destroy her.
Now she must decide who to trust before Abel senses the light waking inside her, Kieran’s darkness corrupts it, and what little color remains in Runyan vanishes forever.A split slide showing “Tropes & Themes” on the left and “Comps” on the right. The left lists elements like color vs. darkness, shadow magic, dark academia, morally gray characters, slow burn romance, and found family, alongside romantic and symbolic imagery. The right lists comparison titles The Serpent & the Wings of Night and The Foxglove King, with brief descriptions of tone and themes. A short “Unique Appeal” section highlights a color-based magic system drained by darkness.A dark, cinematic slide divided into two sections: “Snippet” and “The Atmosphere.” The snippet features a close, emotional interaction between two characters with intense eye contact and tension. Below and beside it is a collage of fantasy imagery including glowing magic, castles, books, shadowy forests, and magical hands, visually conveying the tone of a dark, magical academy setting.

My first #questpit pitch! I’m so excited to participate! DISSEVERER is SILVER ELITE meets ONE DARK WINDOW #Q #A #D #DR #F In the Outlands, Death can be a mercy…until It wants a favor.
A collage of pictures including: shadow hands reaching for each other, red thread, and artwork by Eugene Cuvelier and Avert Van der Neer. Artwork is public domain offered by the MET. Titles of the pieces are “The Farrier” and “Fontainebleau Forest”. The title of the querying work is DISSEVERER and this is an agent guide. The following picture is of a girl holding a red thread. On top of that picture is the covers of three books: SILVER ELITE by Dani Francis, ONE DARK WINDOW by Rachel Gillig and THE FOXGLOVE KING by Hannah Whitten. The pitch is for the novel DISSEVERER is also typed out: a virus-scarred blacksmith with the cursed power to see through the veil that separates the living from the dead, barters with a Death God for her soul’s freedom, but the price is steep: Death wants admittance into the land of the living, and shes’s the only one who can sever the veil. The following is a picture of hands reaching for each other. On top of that is screenshots of positive reviews from readers, beta readers and critique partners. One is from an email, another from a text message, the other review given through a string of DMs. This picture is of a hand and the pointer finger is reaching for dark smoke. Over it is a snippet from my dystopian dark fantasy, where the MC meets a death harvester for the first time.

A woman awakens the soul in a magic mirror that was never meant to love and becomes the only reason he does, while the scholar courting her hunts relics like the mirror. LIGHT IN THE DEEP—a romantic fantasy for readers who crave slow-burn romance and lush, folkloric fantasy. #QuestPit #Q #A #F #RF
A moodboard for Light in the Deep by Kimberly Bridges. A collage of nine images arranged in three columns against a misty forest background. Left column, top to bottom: a pale hand pressed against a dark glass mirror; intense light blue eyes partially obscured by mist; an ornate silver-framed mirror with a glowing, runic surface. Center column, top to bottom: a greenhouse interior; a young woman with long red-gold hair walking into a lush green forest; the title "Light in the Deep" and author name "Kimberly Bridges" in elegant serif font; ancient stone carved with runes. Right column, top to bottom: two hands barely touching; a close-up of a man's dimpled smile; a stack of worn books with a floral teacup on top.A book pitch graphic for Light in the Deep by Kimberly Bridges, white text on a semi-transparent dark green background, set against a mossy forest. Text reads:

“Elowen Estaran has spent her life struggling with the nature magic her family wields with ease. She turns to the ruins in the woods, whispering her secrets to them, knowing they can’t answer.

Until one does.

Elowen discovers an ancient mirror and awakens the voice within: Caelum, an enchanted construct created without selfhood. When Elowen insists he is more than a relic and treats him as a person, Caelum develops a dawning sense of self.

Their bond grows in secret as her dormant magic stirs and Caelum learns to long for her in return—until she realizes her charming suitor Gwydion’s order hunts ancient relics like Caelum.

Elowen must choose between the man who offers her the world and the reflection who offers her truth. But Gwydion's order doesn't just want Caelum studied. They would strip him of his humanity to harvest his power. And her secrecy is the only thing keeping Caelum alive.”A book comps graphic for Light in the Deep by Kimberly Bridges, set against a dark forest background with mossy ancient ruins visible at the bottom and misty light filtering through the trees at the top. A semi-transparent dark green text block at the top reads "Light in the Deep" in elegant serif font, with the subtitle "109k Character-Driven Romantic Fantasy standalone with series potential." Below are four book covers in a row, each with a descriptive label above. Left to right: "Ancient magic, living secrets in the woods" above the cover of Uprooted by Naomi Novik; "Enchanted soul, slow-burn heat and humor" above the cover of Swordheart by T. Kingfisher; "Folkloric academia, dry first person narration" above the cover of Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett; "Magical self-discovery, impossible romance" above the cover of Wild Reverence by Rebecca Ross. Below the covers, italic script text reads: "He was light and magic and I was flesh and blood. We were more than that too, but reality wouldn't let me reach for anything else." A book quote graphic for Light in the Deep by Kimberly Bridges, white text on a semi-transparent dark green background, set against a dark forest with light filtering through tall trees. Text reads:

“Your presence brings a brightness the lantern cannot replace. But there is still a spark of you within it, and I am no longer alone in the dark.”

His words stirred through me like roots moving beneath the surface.
I knelt before the mirror, heart pounding, and pressed both palms to the glass.

“I’ve always wanted you to be in the light with me, Caelum.”

The glass shimmered, blooming with a sudden brilliance.
“If I could be with you in the light, if I could be more … I would choose it. For you.”

A shiver threaded down my spine. He felt impossibly close.
“You already are more. You can be anything you want. I’ve always believed in you.”
