That is the core of the argument though. Slavery was legal, therefore it wasn't legally punishable. Consider the argument about punishing women for killing their baby using legal abortion. Punishment can't be done legally, but they are punished in other ways.

I have seen atoms. They're like 100 picometers or some shit. And we can see them through electron ptychography, and it makes sense to me how their energy works to hold matter together. We knew they existed even before seeing them because the theory held (ironic) together.

Having tonsils and the appendix removed is medical modification; so what do you think I think about the How? Medical transitioning is literally called gender-affirming care and it involves surgeries and hormone therapy too. My friend Miah went through it over a decade ago.
