According to @propublica.org I could personally open Ye Olde New Venture Academy, a private school, in 24 states 😅

Went to an estate sale over the weekend. I thought I’d sworn off of buying other people’s home movies, answering machine cassettes and 35mm slides but when treasure presents itself … I could not resist.
A brown box full of 8mm, super 8mm and 35mm home movies and photographs.

My sister is an incredible leather worker. She just launched her new collection of bags, belts and jewelry. Everything is designed and hand made by her. Just in awe and wanted to share. (I have a prototype of a small tan bag from years ago and take it everywhere) huntersavoy.com/collections/...
A collection of hand made leather goods such as bags, a choker and a belt. They are black with metal details.

I just …
A trucker at the shop called 911 as workers frantically grabbed blue shop towels and patches to place on her wounds, the manager said. The shop manager called 911 and said, "Send somebody quick because this lady is bleeding profusely. ... I mean, it was instant puddles."
Police and paramedics showed up a few minutes later, he said. As paramedics placed tourniquets on Martinez's leg and arm, a bullet fell out of her arm and onto the shop's floor, the manager said. She left in an ambulance. FBI investigators then arrived and placed red tape around the area where Martinez had sat and around her car, the manager said.
They processed the scene for half an hour, then the shop workers cleaned up the blood, he said.

Those recordings are also important because when local and state officials say things like “we couldn’t have seen this coming,” oral histories can show a sort of testimony from the past.

As Secor shows us, as unfathomable as the recent tragedies along the Guadalupe River are, there’s a precedent. Here’s the front page of a local newspaper, the Kerrville Mountain Sun, after the 1932 Guadalupe River flood. Note the date: July 7.

When Secor’s father later took over the business, he said he remembers in 1959 when one new-to-town woman tried to build a cabin along the river nearby. His father warned her not to, he said. Yet the woman didn’t listen:

Love when my journalism colleagues’ work winds up in the @ncph.bsky.social newsletter. Here’s @jenniferberryhawes.bsky.social’s recent reporting for @propublica.org on the legacy of segregation academies, which are still getting millions of taxpayer dollars: www.propublica.org/series/segre...
