Keep in mind, this is $2 million of nearly $37 million in restitution funds allocated in the latest budget. These organizations are solid picks, but the fact that these are the only dollars the restitution board had a say in illustrates a massive power imbalance.

🧵We are heartbroken over the devastating loss of so many community members who died or were killed while experiencing #Homelessness. Each of the people we've lost deserved safety, health care, a safe place to retreat to & lay their head at night, & their humanity to be honored.
Over black background, bold, white font at top left reads, "We mourn all those we lost who died while houseless." Smaller white font below this reads, "The people who died while experiencing homelessness this year each had a name. A story. Inherent dignity. A right to housing. They should be here. Housing justice now." The words, "They should be here." are in bolder, larger font, and the words, "Housing justice now" are underlined in purple. Beneath the copy is a white illustration of three candles burning, with a thin white line forming border below, looping at left. White/rainbow 30th anniversary NHRC logo at bottom right.
